Kimber Goes Wide

A more affordable alternative to the DWX? Wonder if it's going to be any more available than the DWX?

It does look interesting, though.

Can anyone tell from the published information if it's a standard 1911 sized or EMP4 sized? It looks kind of small-ish in the photos.

Looks more like a CZ grip then a 1911.
Minus the slide serrations and rear sight i could be interested. They are a little fugly.

I would like to hold one before I pass judgement.

That pistol is going to sell, provided it runs.

I've shot a couple of EDC9s, and they are very nice pistols. But, IMO, they are worth about 1/2 of what Wilson charges for them.

Might just have to give one of these Kimbers a try.

Like the deep beavertail but it looks more CZ in grip than 1911 (EDC x9 feels more SIG to me) apparently they can’t make a proper 1911 grip with these double stacks (that aren’t real double stacks like the Staccato).

In all honesty, the best 15 round double stack SAO gun for my hands (and I have an EDC x9) is the Sig Legion 229

Taking a back seat to the most popular and - for most people and armies - practically effective pistol round ever made.
So you believe this model possibly has a military application?

Not enough 10mm threads on the forum?
You can never have too many 10mm threads on THR. ;)

But it’s an attractive double stack-ish 1911 pistol. I’m just wondering what other possible chamberings Kimber might offer it in. .45acp maybe?

10mm? Not likely.
I expect to find it is like the EDC, CS, MBX, Platypus, and 2311 which retain 1911 lockwork but have moved away from the .45 length magazines and action stroke of the 2011s to dedicated 9mm proportions.

Wow Im shocked Kimber is actually giving 2 mags for this 1500 dollar gun.Pet peave of mine about Kimbers only one mag and extras are 40-60 bucks depending.

Why are you paying 40-60 bucks for a likely rebranded checkmate mag that one can buy all day long for 20.

Looks to me like kimber is going after the Wilson EDC crowd that can't justify the cost of the Wilson but can with this kimber.

Interesting, because one cartridge that would fit 9mm-COAL mags and the 9mm’s feed-cycle is the .40S&W.

But since the .40’s officially a “dead round” now ( o_O ), we probably won’t see Kimber chamber it in this gun.

Lol

So the Wilson is worth half of the $3000 tag, but you would consider a Kimber priced at that?

If the Wilson is worth $1500, what is this Kimber with its garbage parts worth?

I can't decide if this is more DWX than 2011, or more Wilson EDC X9. More options are always good, though I'll be passing.

As someone whom owns both a DWX and 2011, am taking the Dan Wesson.
IMO superior ergos, better more reliable and cheaper mags, ability to swap grips and imo flatter shooting.

If the DWX didn't drop when it did, I'd own a Wilson.

The DWX was a long time coming, some say delayed by NY covid restrictions.
It caught them between stools without the now essential optic sight cut.

The Kimber's disadvantage is a proprietary magazine.
If you are stuck with a Wilson KZ or Spec Ops, you are limited to the secondary market, Wilson doesn't support them any more.
You can get magazines for the Kimber Ten II only because they got receivers from Bul and MecGar still provides for them.
What is the future at Staccato with both 2011 and own pattern mags?

I think an established magazine is an advantage for DWX/CZ, Platypus/Glock, and 2311/SIG.
