Kimber K6s .357

I want to give that Federal HST micro a try. The ballistics testing they did over at Lucky Gunner has it and the Ranger really sitting in a sweet spot for penetration, consistent expansion without crazy fps. Unfortunately none to be found right now. From that data it looks like a good HD/SD round for either of the guns. Maybe just SD carry the Remington 125's,

Would you mind discussing why you chose to migrate to a revolver for your primary carry?

It's really just personal preference right now. Obviously pro's and con's to both and one just needs to weigh which of those mean the most to them. Since I've recently started reloading, I will be carrying the gun that I shoot a lot relative to my .40 M&P Compact. I suspect comfort will be similar even though the KS has a 3oz weight advantage. Won't have a holster for a few more days.

I got to hold a 3" DAO model in the local big-box sporting goods store, price was about $1150 out the door. I really liked it though, so I started looking around because I knew their prices are high. Sadly, while high they aren't all that much higher. Someone local has one just like it with only a few rounds thru it and is asking $900.

On a whim I checked the AAFES website, and they have the 2" and 3" DASA models priced at $1K out the door. Well, I'll pay the extra $100 to get one new vs used (plus I prefer the hammer), so I put a 3" in the cart and let it stew there for a few days while I mulled it over. On Saturday I decided to move, and started the check-out. Well, it will let you put one in the cart but will not let you check out. Called customer service and they were stumped, but believe it's covid related and they're not doing ship-to-store on firearms.

On Monday I called the gun counter over at Ft Lewis and spoke to a guy there. He'd never heard of this no-guns policy, in fact had just received a web order in that morning. He said he's look into it and call me back. A few hours later he called back and said he could order one for me- which one do you want? So I told him and he said he'd order it, and it should be in this week some time. I'm waiting on that call right now.

The best part is he's ballparking $800 out the door, $200 less than the website and $100 less than the used DAO.

I've already ordered the Kimber speed-loaders and some snap-caps for it. The sad part is I don't own a .357 so I have zero ammo in that caliber, and only 100 rounds of .38Special, and online is either wiped out or absurdly priced. Thus, I'm accepting ammo donations from those of you that can spare a box or two.

I'll post up some pics when I go visit and pay for it, and some better ones when I finally bring it home.

Hell's bells!

I thought AAFES pulled the plug on guns and ammo.

Was I wrong or have they reversed that decision? Maybe pandering to the anti-*assault* weapon crowd and only particular guns?

In any. case - congratulations on the score.

Todd.

Thise look great. My Dad just got the Kimber DASA 4 inch GFO. I haven't heard him be so excited about a new firearm in a LONG time! He's really looking forward to getting to the range with it.

Kimber knocked it out of the park with their revolver line. No one person I know who has one can find one thing to complain about.

You’ll be well served with any one of the 3” guns you’re pining for. :) When you get one, let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance.

Stay safe.

I’ve got a 2” K6s with a couple hundred rounds of full house 357, which is on the brutal side, 38+P which is quite pleasant to shoot and zero issues with any ... because of all the reviews I’ve seen I’m looking forward to being the proud owner of a 4” Target in the near future.

Mine is in- went to Ft Lewis this morning to start the paperwork. They had the 2" model in the display case- I held it and was glad I got the 3" model. The price is going to be well over $900 tho, not sure what he was smoking when he told me ballpark was $800 (maybe that's their cost).

I drove next door to the McChord BX and they had two of the 2" models in the display case. One DAO and one DASA, at $900 and $1K respectively.

Probably be nothing but snap-caps until the panic buying slows- no ammo in the house for this gun. If anyone can spare a box or two at a reasonable price please let me know.

Not a great pic from the cell phone. The barrel is not discolored, that's bad lighting.

Good for you on the gun in general and the length choice too.

Todd.

I got to handle a 6s at one my locals and it feels "wrong" in my hand. Not sure if its the trigger face or the factory grip but, I just couldn't get a good purchase on it. Then again, I'm a huge fan of the Colt's Official Police because it fits my hands so well and the Kimber is almost the opposite of the old C-O-P. I heard some people gripe about the cost but, for what it is, it's actually pretty cheap. It's well made of quality materials and the one I saw was nicely finished.

I'm glad I picked mine up early last year before costs jumped through the roof. I was difficult to justify even $700 ($746 after shipping and FFL transfer) seeing as how I bought the SP101 this was replacing for $400 back in 2017. It's crazy how much more expensive these have gotten in 15 months! But I love the gun, I have nearly 600 rounds through it thus far and it's my EDC. DAO for me, I'm of the mindset that a hammer is useless on a conceal carry gun and it's too tempting to practice single action when you have the option.

I got a K6S 3" DAO a few years ago. I haven't put a LOT of rounds thru it, but I like it a lot, and the trigger is great.

Were you ever able to locate some .357 or .38? I've seen several guys local to us on the NWFA forum selling some for *almost* reasonable prices. My local Bi-Mart recently has had .38 in, so if you're in the South/West Puget Sound area, you may be able to scrounge some up at not-quite pre-pandemic prices.

A little bit. I picked up some BuffaloBore short barrel .357 for carry, and I've been reloading practice ammo.
