I have a Kimber 9mm Solo carry with a couple of issues.

1. The front sight moves out of center position. Is gluing it an option?

2. The POI is low at all distances even with hot loads. I would like to have an adjustable rear sight but there is no OEM for it. I see two options. Take it to a gunsmith or file off the front sight. Any ideas?

It's a great auto with a fantastic trigger. I shoot hot 147gr loads and it is wonderful except for the above mentioned issues.

You can try different ammo and see if your point of impact changes or you could file the front site if you like your ammo preference.

You could use a punch and stake the front site in place or remove the site, slightly peen the edges of the dovetail in the slide and force the site back into place.

Use green loctite on the front sight (609). That's what Dawson recommended for my loose fit SA dovetail. 10K rounds later the front sight hasn't budged.

Why not send it back and have them fix both issues at the same time.

Filing off the top of front sight is perhaps the easiest solution. I had to do that with a Ruger Speed-Six. It was the only practical way to bring the sights into alignment. As far as gluing the sight into place, use Loctight.

Sure, but use something easily removable, in case you need to make adjustments, or need to replace the sight

How low? Most "combat" handguns use a "combat hold" sight alignment where the front sight covers what you want to hit. Or, if we're talking a few inches, you could need a shorter front sight.

I know you wont accept this, but before I would filed off the front sight...I would make sure its the gun...
Either by locking the gun down and firing it.. or by allowing a certified pistol instructor to shoot it... I've seen many people ( all men think they are good shots, so it must be the gun ) only to have a pistol pro put 5 shots right on target.. At my gun club, 5000 members we have certified instructors at every range discipline, a dozen members who are FFL's. etc we have the luxury of professional smiths, loaders, instructors, historians, and big game outfitters at our club.
