Kimber SIS

Does anyone have any trigger time with a Kimber SIS. I really like the feel and the trigger. I had the chance to play with one at a gun shop. I have shot kimbers before and really like them. I heard Dwight VanBrunt and the guys from SIS talking about it on Tom Greshams Gun Talk. Tom gave it high marks. Read an article that Massad Ayoob wrote about it and he also gave it high marks. Just wondering if anyone of us average joes had a chance to shoot it. I am thinking about the sub compact version with a set of crimson trace laser grips.

I have the 5" .45 ACP and so far I like it.
I removed the factory grips and added a rubber checked style.
The balance is good.
The recoil / muzzle flip is no more than my similar sized and styled 9mm (EEA Witness) That smoothness surprised me. I expected a pretty big kick.
The gun is accurate out of the box (primarily shooting 230g FMJ range ammo @ 10 yds +/-)
Trigger pull is minimal with no percieved resistance...it is just smooth.
I dont care for the solid block look of it, but it functions flawlessly.
No grind, drag, racheting, etc.
Re-acquisition of the target is not as quick as I think it should be, but I attribute that to my own lack of 1911 platform experience and this being a new gun to me.
The sights kick butt and are dead on accurate.
It runs really clean...that surprised me too.
The bore gets pretty fouled, but the other internals are usually pretty darned clean.
The first rack of the slide is awkward; as, the hammer has to be cycled with the first rack and it is a pretty stout spring.
Part of that awkwardness is the slide finish being a little slick, but not enough of a problem to bad mouth the gun.
I have had 2 stovepipes in 200 rounds, with zero FTF.
Great excuse to practice Tap, Rack, Bang.

I have owned it a couple weeks, and thus far, I have to say that I am highly satisfied with this purchase.

I'm sure they are a good gun but the SIS in the slide is just goofy.

indeed...I looked right past that, down the Tritium Sights and decided I can live with goofy logos...lol

The "SIS" slide grip and ugly grip panels are unacceptable to me. I like Kimber firearms generally, but this was just "TACTICAL" marketing overkill.

I like my Kimbers, but the SIS serrations have to go. My Eclipse Target II and Stainless Pro II 9mm are perfect. They could have at least left off the front serrations on the SIS! I've heard good things about the function of the gun, and there is no series II safety. If the trigger is like the ones on my other KImbers, It's great. I like the SIS grips.

I have all 3 sizes. I bought the 4 inch first. After shooting it I went back and got the 3 and 5 inch. I recently used the 5 inch at FrontSight during the 4 day defensive handgun course. I only had about 100 rounds through the gun prior to the class. I wanted to see how it did "out of the box". On the first 2 days I had a few failures to return to battery. These occured towards the end of the day when the gun was dirty. On day 3 only twice did it fail to lock up and once again it was towards the end of the day. On day 4 it ran 100%.
The only issues was the failure to retun to battery. I had no failures to extract or any stovepipes. I did have one grip panel come loose the 2'nd day but a little lock-tite fixed that. The gun shot to point of aim and the sights for me were easy to pick up quickly. I did all of the course using Winchester White Box ammo which had no failures to fire. All told I shot just a little over 1,000 rounds.
The 3 inch model got a good going over by the instructors who seemed taken by it. I let them shoot it and each put about 40 rounds through it. It had no failures in about 200 rounds. I have since put about 200 more through it without any failures.
The 4 inch I started with has about 400 rounds through it so far and has only had 2 failures to return to battery when dirty.

Overall I am highly impressed with this model. These guns can shoot. And for some reason I can shoot them better than any of my other 1911's. They just have the feel and balance that works for me.

I really like my 5" SIS. I love the fact that it has no Series II parts, standard length recoil rod and metal MSH. Really like the grips also. Hate the SIS serrations though as they don't give me enough grip to rack the slide with the hammer down. Going to try to put some skateboard tape on the slide to see if that helps. Haven't had any malfunctions in about 500 rounds so I think it's a keeper. Now to see if it will take the place of my Glock 19 as my main carry pistol.
