hello i just got back from my LGS and they had a sweet little gun
a kimber solo in 9mm ok im not rich but this is a nice little gun
what i want to know is this worth it $750 ish or would a kahr cw9
be just as good and about $250. less. i want a smaller pistol that i can
just shoot a lot goes bang all the time and like to eat cast bullets and
be a good carry gun

Do a google search on the Solo. They are very ammo specific and may not meet your requirements.

Did Kimber resume manufacturing of the Solo? I thought they halted production until design flaws were fixed.

I can tell you that the new ones are not ammo specific. While they recommend the use of 147gr my friend has been feeding his a steady diet of 115gr hand loads and it eats them all without a single failure. Of course it likes all kinds of 147gr bullets as well.

Sig P938... cheaper and a lot better pistol in many ways. Eats anything I put through, SA trigger, slightly slimmer, better sights, and a company that will stand behind their product unlike Kimber only offering a 1 year warranty.

The PM9/CM9 eats almost anything you feed it.

If you want a "smaller" pistol, the Solo is on the large side of the pocket nines:



I'm getting a Rohrbaugh R9 - it is a picky eater and partial to Gold Dots in general, but once you've found something it likes, it's reliable with that ammo.

I've read too many stories of people having problems with a Solo - people who really wanted to love the pistol but got frustrated with it, and Kimber.

Had a Solo. Sold it for pennies on the dollar to someone familiar with it's history of issues. (And thats a long list). Couldn't see representing it as a PD weapon to anyone, I could never live with myself if they got themselves killed thinking they had functional personal protection in their hand. The guy I sold it to made it into a doorstop for his shop after mounting it in a solid polyurethane block. I bought a Sig P938 that has been flawless. Everybody is happy. Almost. I will just never, ever buy another Kimber.

CountZer0, I noticed you placed the Diamondback DB9 on that list, with some company it typically doesn't run with. In that light, the Kel-Tec PF9 is noticeably absent..

Edit: your return to the thread to add the PF9 and the SCCY entries (the CPX-2 is a promising-looking gun so far) has been noticed..

I dry fired several Kahrs in local Gun Stores and at local Gun Shows and didn't like the trigger. I shot an MK9 on the range and loved the trigger. The Kahr is on my short list of guns to buy for my beginner handgun classes. I think it is a much better choice than a S&W Airweight and want to offer it for side by side comparison with the Airweight and let the students decide.

I know it flopped when it first came out but the new ones are fantastic. I have shot several of them and they have performed flawlessly. One was right out of the box, no break in at all and it has been that way every time my friend shoots it. Don't dismiss it because of troubles with version one. I pocket carry a Sig p238 and the trigger on the solo is much nicer. It was surprisingly good for a striker gun. If they could get that feel in the glock I would love them even more.

I have tried a number of small 9mms, including a KelTec PF-9, Beretta Nano, and Glock 26, and went with a Kahr CM9 because it had a great DA trigger and it felt the best in my hand, compared to the others. Have not had a chance to try out a Solo but probably wouldn't have gone with one given its cost and early problems. Might still look into a SIG P938 (wasn't out at the time I bought my Kahr), as I really like my SIG P238.

I second the CM9... I was originally looking for a CW9 but ended up with a CM9 and an additional 7rd extended magazine... turned out to work great because I can make the grip bigger/smaller as my clothing dictates.

Only ammo I've found it doesn't like is Federal 115gr FMJ, it gets caught under the feed ramp due to the OAL + bullet nose design(it's very "pointy" compared to other FMJ ammo of the same and similar weights). This only occurs on my 7rd mag because the additional round doesn't have quite as great support for the top round.

WWB 115gr , Aguilla 115 and 124gr, Magtech 115gr, Wolf 115gr, Remington 115gr JHP are all fine and I've shot 100+ of each through JUST my 7rd magazine to ensure they don't have the same problems I had with the Federal.

I have seen a lot of Solo's come into the our range. Most are very ammo fussy. Shoot one before you buy one. They are not for everybody. I have, and can recommend, both the Kahr PM9 with it's long smooth trigger, it is very similar to a DA revolver action, and a S&W Shield, with a more traditional striker fired trigger system. Both are very nice, small, reliable carry guns that I would buy before I would invest in the Solo. Just my 2 ¢

All three are NOT fun to shoot,and I am a shooter that goes throgh about 2000 centerfire rounds per year just for my S/D guns.

I might also add that I am now 65 and cannot abide the same recoil that I did 10 or more years ago.BIG difference and I cannot express that in words alone.

I have had problems with the Kahr and they were AMAZING in their response and both sending me shipping and the return of it to me = AMAZING.

I generally only carry the 3 above as BUG's.

But I can shoot all three fairly well [ shoot a qual of 50 rounds for the HR218 yearly ].

My play on the R-9 is that is the largest FEELING of the 3 and I am most likely to sell that off first.

I also own a Glock 27 and I am sorry that I did not get the 26 instead as I now [ a decade later ] feel the .40 S&W recoil more than the 9MM or the .45ACP.

I've had several, but the one I prefer the best, now, is the Kahr CM9.

This is my first Kahr, and it won't be my last.

SWEET trigger, feels good in the hand, and small enough to conceal in a back pocket (if you have big back pockets).

I had a Ruger LC9 before the Kahr and it was a good little pistol, but the trigger pull was from Atlanta to LasVegas long.

I gave it to my adult Grandson after I bought my Kahr.

I recently settled on a two-tone Sig P290RS. Paid $493, shipped, from FIREARMS4YOU(sp?).
TOP GUN SUPPLY is having even better deals for Cyber Monday.

The Solo is a nice looking gun. It seems that it wasn't meant to be shot allot, and tears itself apart. Much like the Rorbaugh and Diamondback. I have no use for a gun like that.

The Kahr is a tested and proved design. Their polymer guns have never felt good in my hands, though. If it fits you, I'd say it's a viable option. I think it's the "Yard Stick" by which to compare this class of gun.

I really like the Sig P938. However, one of the features I wanted for this type of gun is smooth and snag free.

The Shield is great, good price too, of you can find one. Just a bit bigger than I want.

The KelTec? Had one, never again!

I'm glad I settled on the P290RS. It's at the heavy side for one of these sub-micro-compact-itty-bitty nines. This helps make it very shootable. It is not to heavy for pocket carry but, doesn't hurt your hand to put a couple hundred consecutive rounds through.
I've put 200rds of various FMJ, 80rds Gold Dot Short Barrel, and 200rds of my handloads through (125gr TC Moly-coat lead from Bear Creek Supply). Not a single problem, no issues.
The trigger on the RS (ReSet) variant is very much like a double action revolver, only a bit lighter. I've been carrying snubs for years, so it is an easy transition.
It's sturdy, shoots bigger than it is, and conceals smaller than it shoots. I like it!

The are quite a few Rohrbaugh owners who've owned and shot their R9s since 2004 and the guns haven't shaken themselves apart.

You'll find people who have been shooting them on a weekly and monthy basis for for 7 years and the guns haven't cracked or broken.

They've just changed the recoil spirngs when needed.

I've personally been shooting my Rohrbaugh R9 for four years once a month or so about 30 rounds per trip. I change out the recoil springs as per factory procedure, every 200 rounds or so ($4.95ea).....and guess what? It hasn't "torn itself apart" yet. BTW, anyone who would compare a Rohrbaugh to a Diamondback deserves to own a Diamondback.

LUCKYDAWG13, have you looked at the S&W Shield? It is an excellent pistol for CC, big enough for range shooting and you should be able to shoot any type load you want to through it. It is also considerably less expensive than the Solo.
