Camullis used for steel on the pilot and M3 knives
If you don't want to heat treat yourself yet, you can send them to Paul Bos for heat treating.
My first attempt.
I assume i hardened it done with heat cycling, I couldn't get a bit through it for the second hole
I meant I was getting it pretty hot while grinding the bevel. I tried to dip it each pass to control the heating, but I guess I hardened it a bit, lol.
Check it. It makes a world of difference, especially when you start drilling a dozen holes per knife. No idea what speed the drill press is running at though...

I have no idea if he does or not, but the OP didn't seem committed to oil-hardened steel vs. air or water.
It's not safe at all to wear gloves around a grinder of any sort.knife definitely gets too hot to touch. I wear mechanix gloves and it gets hot. I need to do a better job at keeping it cooler for sure. But I will also slow down the drill.
Belt grinders are ultra-dangerous to wear gloves around just like any other grinder and have the same modes of injury.I'm using a 1x30 belt now, not a typical grinder.
