most rifles however drop the lever straight down (that is perpendicular to
the action). Mine is the Marlin 1894c in .357, and thats what it does.
Before I got the rifle, I was worried that it would be to far for me, but really
no prob.
The lever swing on standard Winchester and Marlin rifles is 90 degrees or a bit more. It is no problem with some practice. There is such a thing as a short stroke conversion that is getting popular with the cutthroat competitors in CAS but it is rather expensive and not needed for anything but high level competition.
