On a lever action rifle, when "dropping" the lever, how far down do you have to drop it to successfully chamber a round?
Knownothing bout lever-action pull length...

I guess it depends on cartridge length....
most rifles however drop the lever straight down (that is perpendicular to
the action). Mine is the Marlin 1894c in .357, and thats what it does.
Before I got the rifle, I was worried that it would be to far for me, but really
no prob.

The lever swing on standard Winchester and Marlin rifles is 90 degrees or a bit more. It is no problem with some practice. There is such a thing as a short stroke conversion that is getting popular with the cutthroat competitors in CAS but it is rather expensive and not needed for anything but high level competition.
