since im looking to make my AK inherently more accurate when i install a new barrel, i was considering installing a krinkov rear sight block, which has the hinge on it for the hinged top cover... reason being is when i install the new barrel (5.56mm) i was thinking of having the barrel threaded for standard 5.56mm muzzle devices and combining the gas block and front sight in the krinkov fashion,

so i was looking for options of moving the rear sight back as well, either by using a krinkov top cover/sight, or perhaps some kind of a rail option that would allow me to mount a sight on a rail in the rear...

are there any top rail options that work better on the krink setup or am i better off using the stock rear sight block and just going with a texas weapon systems or similar top rail?... ive also seen beryl style top rails that fix to the rear tang with a cammed lever that i was considering using, but was thinking of going with a side folder on this rifle which wouldnt have a tang

if any of the hinged top rails for the AK maintain a perfect zero i thought about welding a short length of rail to the top of the gas block for a set of flip up backup sights

i hope you guys understand what im looking to do, id like to move the front sight off of the barrel itself, and in doing so i would need some means of moving the rear sight rearward too and im looking for a solution to do this

hmm.. i guess even if a krink rear sight base and top cover did fit on a standard AK-74, i couldnt use a rail, looks like the rear sight on a krink would be in the way?... guess id be better off with a top rail that hinges on the standard rear sight base and mount the rear sight on the rear of this if i want to increase my sight radius

My honest advice: mount a side rail hardpoint. This is the only truly solid mount option I know of for an AK. You can get the hardware from Kalinka Optics and any competent gunsmith can mount it.

i intend to have a side rail on my AK when i put it together, atleast just to have the option.. i wonder if a rear sight on a midwest industries low profile side rail would match up to a combination front sight/gas block, and how well it would hold zero when its pulled off to field strip and placed back on?..

another option im looking at is not neccessarily the TWS option, because the top cover on an AK slants slightly downward.. but considering a beryl type mount that hinges independant of the top over?... unless the TWS top cover rail was designed to match the axis of the bore? im not sure if it is.. but i guess my best option afterall would be to keep the rear sight block and find another option for a rear sight

True. The dust cover that Russian troops have nicknamed pencil box is too unstable for a scope or red dot platform.
As for the top rail... I can't explain it man. Just don't. Not on the AK.

i was thinking of going with a polish beryl type top rail, hinges where the rear sight goes and locks to the rear tang... hold a zero pretty well, but after doing more thinking i think i might just keep the front sight block seperate of the gas block, might add a tad more weight, wont have any effect on accuracy, and i can keep the longer sight radius... i kind of like the idea of the side mounts anyway, throw a lever and pull it off... might upgrade the iron sights to trijicon though (for the record, i really dont like ghost-ring/peep sights, with my experience in specific rifles ive learned how to use and prefer using the AK style
