Why won't it work in the rearmost slots?...

Once I separated the two halves of the fore-end, I found out that the stabilizer will not fit the molded ribbed area that surrounds the last slot (near the receiver)

It will, however, fit in the four forward-most M-Lok slots. ;)

I liked the idea so much that I installed two of them ~ fore & aft.

No flex at all now. :D:D

Upgraded RD mount

...How does it mount to both he barrel and the handguard? Would this still place the optic in an offset position?

The answer to your second question is...yes!

However, a small modification to a Midwest Industries KeyMod-to-MLok adapter will hopefully serve as a suitable optics mount.

Keymod2MLok.jpg (click on image to expand)

Although originally designed to provide a M-Lok slot for a KeyMod handguard, I thought it might be a solid base for my RD.

MIkm2ml.jpg (click on image to expand)

Had to use M-Lok fasteners to attach the adapter to the Sub-2000 (Gen 2).
Attached to stabilizer with a stainless machine screw.

Screw2stabilizer.jpg (click on image to expand)

Used the Magpul aluminum offset that was part of the first RD mount.

No problems folding the subbie. :)

Brass Catcher

Has anyone found a rigid brass catcher that will work well on the Sub-2000? The outdoor range nearest to me has ground cover of medium-rough stone; not easy to recover spent brass. :(
I've tried my mesh-bag Caldwell catcher ~ doesn't function with the subbie canted 45-deg. (offset RD). Any suggestions welcome. ;)

Windage Spring for Pivot Block Upgrade

...I think a stronger windage spring (part #528) will help this mod.

Thankfully, some windage springs from Kel-Tec arrived by mail today!

WindageSprings.jpg (click on image to expand)

A gunsmith friend in Idaho is going to try to come-up with one that works better.
I'll post his findings when available.

... and its probably safe to say the front sight needs another re-design from Kel-Tec...for the Gen2 model as well.
Yep, that's what's recently happened.
KT has started shipping new S2K-G2's with the new front sight.
I'm waiting for info on whether it will be offered as a retrofit for the ones produced earlier ~ stay tuned; I'll pass-on anything new that comes along.....

I mailed him one of the stock windage springs to use as a reference. He was able to make more out of thicker wire on their EDM machine.

They arrived in Monday's mail. :)

I'm going to try the stiffest spring first (0.030), as I had horizontal stringing on the last 50-yard range test.

Here's an image of the spring machine. :what:

With all the rain, outdoor test has to come later. 20 yard test @ the pistol range (rest) yielded fairly-good results from the Gen 2 S2K.

Really pleased with the solid modified RD mount.

I found one designed for a M3 Grease Gun that I was considering modifying to fit the S2K-G2.
Sent the manufacturer an inquiry about a model-specific brass-catcher; their reply is below:

We are working on the molds but they are not ready yet. I will put your name on the list and contact you when we have catchers.

Thanks for asking,

How is the new sight different?

I'm told the front-sight internals are the same, but they have eliminated the aft set-screw and machined a shoulder to allow installation of a jam nut.

The original design only had the thread-protector.

Second session with the new & improved RD mount (rest) was helped with a different load.
Credit to Walkalong, who worked-up the Little Lasers over a spell; they work exceptionally well @ 20 yards with a 3 o'clock hold. :)

New windage spring installed ~ front sight is improving (but my eyes are not).

... my friend said 95% of the recoil was from the bolt slamming around back/forth due to the simple blowback design....if thats true, this heavier bolt could definitely help...

Range session today to try the heavy brass bolt with full-powered ammo.
20 yards off a rest :) with 15 rounds of Little Lasers.

Seemed that the cycle duration was ever-so-slightly slower. The heavier bolt didn't hurt. ;)

I was going to submit a snail-mail order to take advantage of the 15% off discount. After checking on availability, E&L MFG. sent this message:

I prefer not to take orders before we have a good working part. It may take a little more time than was estimated.
I will let you know as soon as we have parts ready.

Thanks,
Val

Swivel RDS mount for the Gen2

Midwest Industries has worked-out the problems of mounting a RDS on the Gen2 Sub-2000. Here's a video from the MAC on how it works!

Val sent an e-mail last week; the brass-catchers are ready! :)

We have the Sub2000 Brass Catchers ready to ship. We haven’t assigned a number to it as yet.
However, it you still want one just call it a Sub2000. They are $39.95 and $8.00 for shipping and they hold 60 rounds of .40 S&W

The BC came in today's mail.

The unit snaps on & off easily with no need for mechanical fasteners.

New trigger

...However, there is a small manufacturer in TX that has created an array of aftermarket upgrades for the Sub 2000. His vendor name is earley...

I've been told a new trigger for the Sub2000 is in development. I'll post pics once it become available...;)

Happy Fourth of July to all!

... bunch of new parts, including internal spring kits ...
MCarbo is a veteran-owned parts manufacturer & merchant in FL; I recently bought one of their spring kits for the Sub2000. (GEN2)

There is also a new trigger in production @ Performance Services.

Magazine holders

"The BDMP’s unique open-front design, and retention system allows the user to “break” or push the magazine away from his body, even in extreme conditions or while in difficult positions, or while wearing heavy clothing and/or equipment."

The retention design feature intrigues me; not like the others I've seen.....
Have a couple ordered; I'm interested in mounting 2 to the stock.

I'll post a pic of the wicked trigger when it arrives by mail.

The newest Performance Services skeletonized trigger for the SUB2000 came today

I installed the new trigger & it feels great with the MCarbo spring kit.

WIckd_install.jpg

The Kel-Tec specifications for stock trigger pull is 9-10 lbs. Although I don't have a pull gauge, my estimate is the new modification yielded a trigger pull of approx. 4-5 lbs. while dry-firing using snap caps.

More info after a range session... AoG ;)

New KT upgrades

ISO9000 certification is working and helping get changes made and into production sooner, faster and smoother. Kel-Tec has introduced several upgrades to the Sub2000 G2 :D
