Hey, what do you guys think of these for general plinking and target practice, say up to about 600 yards? The gun is a Browning Bar hunting type, not military. 20" barrel and 1/12 twist.
Military surplus bullets are great for rock busting. Don’t expect much for accuracy. Modern 150’s from quality manufacturers are actually good, and I hit a most unusual sweet spot with my Horndays in my rifle. My PTR91 does not shoot these Hornady’s nearly as well, so this one exceptional target is, well, exceptional.
However the targets with ball ammo or the IMI military bullets, these are typical.
If you are going to shoot at rocks at 600 yards, better aim at the big rocks. The small ones are going to be less than the error induced by the bullet.
Lake City M80 bullets may likely have mild steel jackets.
Gilding metal clad steel is the standard jacket material for M80 Ball, because its main use is in linked machinegun ammo.
Might want to ponder that before shooting a bunch of them in a nice fancy Browning BAR.
100 yard plinking? OK in my M1A, and 1919A4. They're good for casual plinking and rolling cans but not for practice if you're a competetive shooter.
Also it depends on how they were pulled. I've bought pulls from several different sources and I can tell which batch is which by how well they shoot. Some are just as good as new bullets and one particular batch shoots about 8 MOA.
No, not for competition. Just a casual shooters. Was just looking for bulk shooters to keep my trigger time up. I normally shoot 175smk's and 168 Nos CC's. Trying to keep costs down.
