I know that the 5.56 Lake City ammo has Military Crimped Primers but does all Lake City ammo have Military Crimped Primers? I have about 200 each 30 Carbine cases and they don't seem to have crimped primers but then again they are once fired brass but they are Lake City Brass. Just wondering if someone knows it they put Military Crimped Primers in their 30 Carbine ammo? Thanks in advance if you know.

My dealings with Lake,City brass for the 5.56 has been to swage the brass, it makes setting primers work.

just my $_02

30 Carbine primers aren’t crimped. 223, 308, and 30-06 are. However, 30-06 HXP brass can be reloaded without removing the crimp. They use a three point crimp, not a full ring.

The Dillon crimp remover is the best option I have seen, other than a Dillon 1050! The Lee AP press may also work well, I haven’t tried it.

Dumb question... when was the last time Lake City produced .30 Carbine ammos???

The last WW2 lot of .30 caliber ball was #13699. Lake City closed in August 1945, then was re-activated for Korea in early 1951, starting with lot #13700, shown on the chart above as the first batch of non-corrosive. Production of .30 caliber M2 ball continued at Lake City until 1975, when it was finally terminated.

Interesting. I know the general turnover years for the battle rifles, but not something like the M1 Carbine, or even something like the M3 Grease Gun... which they were still issuing when I was in the Army, in the late '80's.

The only FTF`s I`ve ever had with my .223s were with Frontier ( Hornady ) loads, which are ( were? ) manufactured for Hornady at Lake City. I don`t know how accurate my info was, but I read where Lake City used the military primers and that they tended to be a harder primer (?).

Charlie 98-- I was once told that there are no dumb questions, ONLY DUMB ANSWERS!! If you read my post you would know that the Brass in question was ONCE FIRED BRASS. it was made at Lake City and that was my query!! Thank you for you answer, everyone to an opinion.

From the way the thread title and original post is worded, it's not clear that it's understood that is the brass that gets crimped. The brass is not primed with "Military Crimped Primers," but rather the brass is primed with ordinary boxer primers and then the brass is crimped at the primer pocket so the primer cannot as easily come out. Perhaps that is understood, but it wasn't clear.

Certainly, not all Lake City brass gets crimped. For sure, when unfired and unprimed LC brass is sold, it is not crimped. As for particulars about 30 Carbine, I have no additional information.

I just looked at the Lake City Brass I have, which is once fired, and the head stamps are 1943, 1944, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1968 & 1971, also I have a couple that have LC Head stamps of 7 & 4, just the numbers. I didn't see a military crimp but better to ask the question and know for sure, even if it seems be a dumb QUESTION to some, I won't bite to that arguement.

Well, you OP piqued my interest... so my question had nothing to do with your OP, hence the 'dumb question' part. Military ammunition production fascinates me...
