When you are developing a load for a large magnum rifle how many loads do you make working your way up to the max? In this case I'm working up a load for my 7mm Remington Magnum.

When reloading for my 6.5x55 I usually take the difference of grains between the max and starting load and divide by 4 to give me a total of 5 loads. For a load on my 7mm I just developed however, that means each load was an increase of 1.7g of powder. That seems like a large jump in powder between loads.

What do you think, should I limit the jump in powder to 1g? Increase the number of loads to 7 or 8?

If I'm developing this for hunting and I know that I'm not going to use the minimum loads, should I start more in the lower-end of the middle powder weight and then work in smaller increments up to max?

I go by 1 grain increments for developing loads with hunting bullets and .5 grain increments for match bullets as match bullets tend to be more responsive to powder charges on paper-

Thanks JRSpicer. I like using 5 loads (25 cases, so 1/2 a bag) for load development. But 1.7g jumps in powder seems like too much and 1g seems much more reasonable.

Any other ideas or suggestions?
