Hi Guys, I recently saw a guy who had a ROA with a scope mounted on it, he said he only had to drill one hole for the scope mount. But I was thinking of putting a laser sight on the trigger guard, a laser sighted ROA! What do you guys think about this?? Anyone tried this? I know it would be accurate, even with powder loads..:)

Why not just shoot a glock then? ya seem to have missed the point of C&B handguns, its about learning to shoot a PRIMITIVE weapon accuratly not to find ways around your inability to shoot PRIMITIVE handguns accuratly.

Thousands shoot sub MOA groups with C&B revolvers everyday in this country without tryin to turn em into a 21st century wonder auto, its about learning to shoot......

Your use of the word PRIMITIVE is funny because the ROA is not a PRIMITIVE bp gun, its MODERN, Kinda like the sights he wants to put on it. If he wants them on it, I say more power to him. And just for my own info, its alright to put those sights on a Glock because it's modern, but if its older you shouldn't because you should use skill with them?

Songsoffreedom, You want to put the sights on it, go for it, its your gun. Me personally I don't use them on any pistol, PRIMITIVE or MODERN.

Mmm … interesting one this. I kind of agree with both dstorm1911 and dwave for different reasons. I shoot C&B revolvers because of two reasons. One, our stupid and pathetic handgun laws in the UK prohibit me from shooting modern handguns and two, I just love C&B revolvers. I never tire of experimenting with different loads, balls, lubs, caps etc and even love cleaning them. Yes, that’s what I said … I even love cleaning them! I would never put anything on my Navy .36 or do anything with it that wasn’t on the original … but that’s the fun of it for me.

But heay! … it’s your gun so do what you like with it. If you want to chop the barrel, change the sights or even de-blue it it’s up to you. I think it’s called freedom of choice. Something that both our great countries believe in thank goodness and allows us all to have a difference of opinion.

You know … this morning my daughter asked me what a sporting hero was – I told her there is no such thing. I then showed her the opening scene from ‘Saving Private Ryan’. That’s what a hero is I told her and thank god our countryman fought for freedom of speech to allow us all to have these great discussions and disagreements.

Either way, the laser would look pretty sweet drawing a line through the smoke. Especially if it isn't windy. I probably wouldn't do it to mine, but I would love to see what a laser going through a black powder smoke cloud looks like.

Didn't say the technology was modern, I said it was a modern gun, you know, made in the time period that Glocks are made (Old Army 1972;Glock 17 1980). Even though it uses old tech, it has been upgraded with better sights and action. Tech wise, sure it's based on old tech, but it IS a modern gun.

All that doesn't change the fact that if he wants to put sights on it, he should go ahead.

The ROA generates a lot of power residue. It is the nature of shooting a cap and ball revolver. Even with substitutes like H777. I wonder how much of that would interfere with an optical sight like a scope or the lens of a laser.?

I think you'ld be better off with plain old open sights . If it were a single shot pistol with less residue, then it would be more feasible.

You can still appreciate the uniqueness of a black powder weapon without giving a rats ass about how primitive it is. The reason I shoot one is because it looks cool, I can load it exactly how I want for every single shot, and it fits into some great legal loopholes. I couldn't care less that it's a civil war relic, or that it shoots the way they did it 150 years ago. If you're going to be nuts about that then you need to poop in the yard, ride a horse into town, and wash your clothes in the river while you're shooting it.

Personally, I wish someone would make a modern muzzleloading revolver with a lightweight frame, fluted cylinder, laser sight, and spec'ed for smokeless.

lets see, internal combustion was invented a century and a half ago or so, pushrods not long after and whadaya know the newest most hightech american sports cars still use them. primitive indeed. too bad we dont start with primitive tech to learn to drive. I'm not sure its about primitive for most of us, i think its about fun.

anywho, i think i'm going to get an 1860 Colt and put a scope on it. i sure hope you put a laser on your ROA. as said it would look SWEET cutting through the smoke! if you want, try mounting a light and a red dot scope too:D IT"S YOUR GUN! you can even get a shoulder stock for it too, if you can find it, i suppose.

good luck and POST PICS!!

Somehow it just seems wrong- kind of like having a Hi-Point pistol engraved and gold inlaid.

DStorm1911- whoa, Chill the F$%# out! who the hell are you, anyways? I didn't ask YOUR dumbass opinion?:cuss:

What this is about is the ROA, with a laser sight or scope, and if anyone's done it. Primitive? You're primitive, and we aren't talkin about glocks here, you can read my posts about my glocks in the autoloaders section if you want to talk about "modern" handguns.:banghead:

We're talkin about possibilities here- It doesn't always have to mean traditional, with BP.. We're talkin 21st Century BP shootin here- If you're a civil war reenactor, then don't put up your garbage here, we're here to talk anything about BP related, not Primitive weapons.:banghead:

I DO SHOOT sub MOA groups with my ROA- Even 1/2 inch groups at 50 yds!

BIG BLOCK- You are exactly on my page, I guess DStorm1911 and oneshooter both still Poop in the yard, and if they even wash their clothes, it would be in the river!:D

Vermonter- Good idea, that is the best one so far, I will get me some laser grips, that would be the best, expensive, but it would work the best. I didn't know they made one for the BlackHawk..:)

The Hi Point pistol would still be ugly after engraving and gold inlay, if thats your type of gun, you can't be helped JN01.:banghead:

Thanks, Guys. Your opinions are always appreciated, as I'm sure mine are also!

If you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question.

WOW, talk about taking things personal! If you have read ANY of my posts you would know that I believe that the primitive arms are a true test of the abilities of the shooter. Adding scopes, lazer sights et al only lesson the challenge, and thus the abilities, of the shooter. I shoot, and hunt primitive, with both rockers and matchlocks. If this leads you to believe that I am a physical throwback then so be it. I do NOT use PERSONAL attacks, never have, never will. It just LOWERS the level of intellegent conversation.

Yeah, sure guys. Oneshooter- I don't hunt with flint locks and matchlocks, you're a real traditionalist, this isn't the primitive form, and thats cool for you.

But when you say something stupid to be SARCASTIC, that is Personal. So, don't try to change the subject, "I would guess that he owns an scoped inline also. And needs a revolver to match!" What the hell is that supposed to mean? It is what it is, so don't change the story and go back to throwing your spears and rocks, its in the all other weapons category on this forum.

JN01, I do want to hear the answer, but not from YOU. You wasn't thinkin', you was just sayin what was on your mind, but thanks anyways.

Armed Bear, I consider you to be cool, don't go there. I already had my bones with Jamie C. I'm going to act like I didn't read that.

Vermont, - Thanks, you are always very helpful, and positive. Thank You.

Actually yea ya did when ya posted your question in a public forum so ya might look in the mirror and repeat that dumbass comment.......... or at least try growin up a tad bit........ well o.k ALOT ohhh wait just noticed your from NYC that explains the inability to communicate in a civil manner, out here in Arizona we try and avoid just jumpin in and cussin at folks we know nothin bout.......... most of em are armed and might very well just shoot yer ignerant ass......... but then someone livin in a super tight gun restricted zone might not understand findin out exactly who it is your tryin to jump in the middle of........

Wow ok I want to jump in too. I don't have any idea why you would want a scope or a laser sight on your ROA. I would not want to but it is your gun. I would like to see it in action so take some pics of it. I would think you will need a breeze as I don't think the light will make it through the smoke. I feel it would only work for the first shot, or long pauses between shots. I do have a question for you songsoffreedom why? Is it just because you want to or if you have a reason to (need?) it.

You guys are so backwards, forget I even posted this.

I posted this to see if anyone has done it, clearly the answer is a big resounding NO! And all the idiots came out to play!, especially Dstorm1911. Bring it, I will shoot you in the F#$%in face, bro. You don't even know who you are messin with, so don't go off and smartmouthing people you don't know, before I bust a cap in your hillbilly ass, dumbass!

SOF,
Please cut out the CHILDISH, INANE responses and the implied profanity. You are bigger than all that, now aren't you?

"Profanity is the end result of a feeble mind's attempt at self expression."

while you're at it, grab a scope and a laser grip. i seriously want to see this thing. i'll admit i'm not a fan of lasers on guns at all, but i'm sure the scope would be useful. the laser would just be for useful fun. Now i want to go get my Colt and a scope even more:D

and please dont get mad on the internet, its not worth the little bit of stress it causes. lots of people let stuff slip in a joking sarcastic way and dont mean it as an actual attack.
