I was considering one for my 870, but wasn't sure if it would fit the larger diameter 2-shot Scattergun Technologies / Wilson extension I used. I did email the company and a gentleman by the name of Dan said they hadn't verified that setup yet.
If anyone has the LaserMax setup with a Scattergun extension, I'd love to hear about it.
I really like the idea of the laser sight (I just have the front bead) but after a day at the range seeing how it patterned and my aim was, I think I could just get by with a light.
Before I get flamed for wanting to put a laser on a shotgun, here's the deal. Some buddies routinely do their pig hunting/thinning w/ NVGs at close range, currently with ARs. I've been with them several times and thought the shotgun might be a better choice at the ranges they get into - right in among them.
For me to be able to shoot my 870 through NVGs that I have little practice/experience with, I could use some aiming assistance, and this might do the trick. Another option would be to put my eotech on the 870, but that seems like a waste of a perfectly good eotech and overkill/too much crap. A decent laser/flashlight combo would be perfect if I can find one that will work.
Does anyone know if you can activate the laser without turning on the flashlight on the lasermax model? It would be less advantageous if you had to alert the pigs to your presence by turning on the light.
I have one on my project shotgun I built. The answer is "No" you cannot turn the laser and light on seperatly.
That being said... it is a really trick piece and the quality is top notch. As a side note though.. I have a chamber tube extension (18" barrel). I had to remove the piece the strap mounts to. I had to go w/ a noose style strap that goes on before you install the laser.
On the bright side... it has survived repeated poundings by everything from slugs to 3" turkey loads...
Thanks for the response, Davionmaximus. It does look like a quality unit. Unfortunately, I'm looking for something that will allow separate laser/flashlight use, so I'm back on the hunt for separate units.
