I just finished reading "The Last of the Mohicans" (absolutely amazing novel. The movie is awful as an adaptation of the novel but a rich and fun movie if taken separately from the book, in my opinion).
Anyways, I am wondering what type of rifle Natty Bumppo would have been carrying (not in the movie but in the mid-1750's when the novel takes place). I realize that Natty Bumppo was fictional but curious as to which rifle type his "flint long rifle" would be? There seem to be so many different types to me: Not only Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee long rifles but also Berks county, Lehigh valley, Dauphin valley, Virginia, York county, Lancaster, Allentown, etc.
If one wanted to have a true 1750's period flint long rifle, which of the above types would match up?
Thanks.
