Here's a pic of my first revolver after it's first range trip. I couldn't hit the side of a barn with it, me not the gun. This might end up being a like to look at it more than shoot it, purchase. Not sure I like the red ramp front sight. Even though the grips attracted me to the gun they might have to go too.

What's weird is the range experience with a revolver felt totally different than with a semi. More of leisurely, take your time kind of feel. Best part 100% brass recovery rate with no scrounging on the floor.

When I checked out the timing it seemed okay. But after about 75 rounds I started getting off center primer strikes and felt a little debris hitting my cheek on a couple of shots.

I've had a little trouble with Red ramps myself. Like to either bring the red all the way to top with paint, or just use sight black to even make it all black.

On grips I guess it's personal preference, but if your saying they look great but are are a lousy design for actual shooting you would be far from alone ;)

Good sticky on checking out your revolver at top of page as far as the problems mentioned.

With all above said. S/W don't make them like this anymore. The little trouble in getting the bugs worked out and gun set up to your prefernces will likely be VERY worthwhile. Enjoy :D

I've been thinking about getting a 6" 586. Since you're having trouble with yours, sell it to me cheep. I know a good S&W smith.

Seriously, as Blueduck said they don't make them like that anymore. My recommendation would be to hang on to it, learn its likes and dislikes and fix what needs fixing. You'll probably be glad in the long run.
