I have been looking for a 22 revolver just for plinking and packing around for snakes, etc. I have been hunting a nice H&R 22 for a while but the prices on excellent condition H&Rs in 4inch or shorter is just getting too high. The one I have has been a workhorse passed down to me from my grandfather but has finally worn out and started to develop issues. I was getting ready to buy a S&W 617 with a 4 inch barrel. I didn't really want to spend $700 on a gun that would be tossed around. I saw an advertisement for the LCRx and the LGS said their distributor had them in stock. I went ahead and had them order me one sight unseen. I gave around $430 plus tax. I picked it up yesterday. My first impression was that the small hammer was way to hard to pull back and the trigger was heavy. I almost wished I had bought the Smith. I packed it around today and fired probably 75-100 rounds throughout the day. By the end of the day I didn't even notice the heavy hammer. The single action pull is fine and the double action is actually pretty smooth even though it was heavy. I could easily hit cans at about 35-50 ft but never actually shot any targets to see how it grouped. My first impression was wrong and I think this was exactly what I needed. The gun is so light you can't even tell you are packing it, it shoots straight, and is about as impervious to rust and scratches as you can get. While the Smith has a better trigger it is way too big and heavy for my needs. The length of the double action trigger pull is also much shorter on the Ruger and I actually prefer is to the longer pull on the Smith. I would recommend the LCRx to anyone looking for a utility 22lr that is not planning on doing any serious target shooting.

Thanks for the review. I have a S&W Model 34 Kit Gun (actually it's the wife's Kit Gun but I do get use it from time to time), and a Beretta Model 70S, which I consider to be the semi-auto equivalent to a .22 revolver Kit Gun. This new Ruger sounds like it would fit right in with what I already have in the way of a nice compact .22 for taking along on backwoods hikes.

I have two Smith 43Cs, a Smith 63, a Smith 317, and a Ruger LCR 22, and I shoot the heck out of them. I think I want a Ruger LCRx 22 as well. I can't think of a "need" for the gun given my current accumulation, but I have reached the point in my life where "need" no longer is a requirement. It sounds like a nice gun to have, so I think I will. Thanks for your quick review.

I know the feeling, when I went to pick up the LCRx they had a CZ Scorpion carbine in. There is no rational reason for me to get it but I really want one now.

Thanks for the report. I will buy the 3" Adjustable sighted model as soon as I find one! I had a 617 for a while, but a friend needed it more than me, so I sold it to him. They are just too high in price for me to replace now, but the Ruger is just about right. I have been toting my Ruger Single Six around quite a bit, so a light .22 will be a welcomed addition.

Glad you like the LCRx 22. I want one, but not in a great hurry to pick one up. I have M17's, M18's, M63's, LCR (22) and various models of Colt revolvers in 22. (22's are my thing.) I want a LCRx (22). That will probably do it for me with 22 revolvers until something really special comes around and they always seem to.

Lately I have mostly been shooting the M63 (3" and 5").

KY thanks for the honest appraisal; looking fwd to owning one someday. Really like the 22LR LCR, one of my favorite guns. Enjoy your LCRX.

I'm tracking several of those on Gunbroker and it's the next gun I'll buy. Thanks for the review, I found this little gun after shooting the Ruger SR22, which is a lot of fun to shoot but I want a wheelie.

Is there any kind of spring kit for these LCR 22s?
Some people cut a couple of coils off the springs but I don't think anyone makes a kit. I'm just going to leave mine alone. The double action is smooth and I'm getting accustomed to the hammer. I think part of the reason it is hard is because it is such a small hammer. I once owned the sp 101 in 22lr and much prefer the trigger on the LCRx.

Good luck finding a holster...
I bought a GunMate at Walmart for under $10 It works great for my purposes. Ruger sells custom fitted holsters but they are about $70. It is a utility gun for me, so I'm not looking for any kind of specialty holster.
