I'm just starting to reload for a 10mm in a 1911 platform. I've heard that shooting lead bullets in 1911 platform is problematic especially in ramped barrels. Is there a particular design/shape lead bullet that works best ?
I'd hate to buy a batch of 500 bullet only to find they don't feed worth a darn.

Shouldn't be any different then jacketed bullets.

Stick with RN-FP or TC-FP type bullets, which are normally all that is offered in .40 cal anyway.

Should work fine.

The round nose will probably work best in 1911s, but you might have to have a competent gunsmith polish the feed ramp and throat the barrel for any other (TC, SWC) bullet styles.

I have a buddy that shoots 200 grain Truncated Cones in his S&W 1006. The hogs hate him :).

Just my .02,

The most accurate 10mm bullet I shoot in my Witnesses, Delta Elite and S&W 610 is an RCBS 200 grain TCFP lead bullet that comes out of my mold at 206 grains. I size them .401" diameter and lube with Magma lube. This bullet feeds through all my semi-auto 10mm pistols and shoots circles around almost every other bullet.

Hope this helps.

180-200 grain RNFPs

Yeah, those are often listed as ".38-40" bullets... and they are.

They're the same .401 diameter that your .40 and 10mm is, and they cycle very well in mine. They're not unpleasant to shoot unless you're working your 10mm to its potential. Then again, if you do, that's a wicked heavy enough slug to do its job.

I shoot 175 TC lead in my .40 XD and cast 225 gn lead RN for a buddies Kimber 1911 in .45 acp with absolutely no issues.

My experience has been that with out tinkering, semi-wads dont feed reliably in either of these platforms. Though I have known a few that had no trouble.
