I called a scrap yard today in central NJ and they want $0.90 per pound for wheel weights. Wow! I have asked 7 auto repair and tire shops and am finding slim pickings for wheel weights. I local range in PA cannot sell me used range lead due to regulations. I am struggling to find lead.

I am in North Carolina and though not as expensive as NJ, the days of free w-w seem to be gone.
I reckon I will have to start buying lead, can you believe it?

Finding WW's is alot like fishing . . . you have to try alot of different places and when you find one that pays off you don't tell ANYONE about it. :)

I have a regular route now that I use and the going rate seems to be about $25-$35 per 5 gallon bucket. (some places are still free). It takes alot of persistence to find the good places though. When I was starting out I had terrible luck and one day I had a business trip planned so I alotted an extra 3 hours to get to the airport and hit every single medium/small town between my house and O'hare airport (122 miles away). I went 0-7 at the first 7 places and then in one small town came away with 300lbs, and ended up the day 5-15. The poor little jetta I was driving had 450lbs of WW's in the trunk and was squatting pretty badly. :)

FWIW.

Have a good one,
Dave

sounds like you need the passat station wagon dmftoy.
My dad and I have loaded that thing like no other station wagon has been loaded. It's like a truck, that is still useful for the whole family, and gets 40mpg. When you can say the same bout one of those deisel super duties with the quad cab, and keep the bags dry on the way to the airport... (Well, they have meaning in the hands of a contractor.) ... you get the point. You can move a lot of lead with the thing. : )

where are you in NJ? We take out aprox 800 lbs of lead 4 times a year and sell it for scrap. I am the VP of a NW NJ pistol club. I'm sure I can hook you up. If you want to pay what the scrap yard pays, why not? And I know we are not getting .90 a pound.
