Learn from my ND

You had an AD, not an ND. The term negligent discharge is way over used. You did nothing that even comes close to qualifying as negligent.
Seems like dropping the slide on a live round and then pulling the trigger and shooting a hole in the wall could be considered "negligent". As always, it depends on your definition.

Judging from the tone of the thread you were (are) shaken up by the experience & I don't blame you. I think most of us have had a similar experience & at least I was shaken up as well. Mine took place with a rifle I though was empty & I pulled the trigger after putting inside the gun case. Blew the end cap 20 feet into the air but it was pointed up so that was it. Recently my neighbor shot himself in the thigh while (after) cleaning a Glock (9 mm). When he reassembled the gun & racked the slide the gun picked up a round from the magazine & went off when the slide slammed on the round. He's still not sure of exactly what happened but if the muzzle had been pointed away from him he wouldn't have injured himself. I believe this is the secret for 100% firearm safety, If you NEVER point it at anything you don't want to shoot even an accidental discharge will be nothing more than a reminder of how quickly things can go south if you're not careful with guns.

Weirdly I have sometimes found the P22 safety to be counter-intuitive for me. For those that do not know, for a P22 when the S is showing it is SAFE, when the F is showing it is ready to FIRE. That seems obvious, but for whatever reason I would sometimes hesitate and have to consider if the correct positioning is move it to S to make it SAFE, and move it to F to make it ready to FIRE. Dumb, but something I was aware of and decided to mark the F with red paint to be sure.

That does sound counterintuitive

I feel your pain and embarrassment. I too had a ND in my living room when nobody was home and it cost me a tv and a hole in the wall. I learned the hard way but will always remember the rules I ignored.
