Yep, forgot about dueling trees, dueling trees can be a lot of fun.

My cf tree, I bought the paddles/tubes on ebay and the rest of the steel locally.

I have both a 22 and center fire tree and I had a membership to a range that ran weekly dueling tree matches.

With my trees, I can change the rules to accommodate shooters with varying abilities when shooting man-on-man (sorry! person-on-person). :uhoh:
Like spotting the "always-looses" shooter a shot or even a target to even it up.
And the looser always resets the tree with his ammo.
Limiting auto shooters to 6 rounds equalizes reloads with revolver shooters, and yes, there can be multiple reloads...
Shooting man-on-man is way different than using a clock/timer.

I suggest the OP to ask about dueling tree or falling plate matches at clubs local to him or build his own tree to challenge his rifle shooting buddies.
Here's a few vids:

Pistol shooting on the cheap:
  1. Buy a package of 25 yard replacement centers for bullseye target.
  2. Buy a package of 50 yard replacement centers for bullseye target.
  3. Go to your favorite outdoor range and set up 50 yard target at 50 yards. Shoot 10 rounds in 10 minutes and score (slow fire).
  4. Set up 25 yard target at 25 yards. Shoot 5 rounds in 20 seconds, repeat 5 rounds in 20 seconds, and score (timed fire).
  5. Set up new 25 yard target at 25 yards. Shoot 5 rounds in 10 seconds, repeat 5 rounds in 10 seconds, and score (rapid fire).
You have just fired what is called a National Match course: 30 rounds, 30 possible X's, and 300 possible points. You can fire 22 LR, any center fire, or 45 ACP, revolver or semi-auto. All are possible choices. If you think the 25 yard bullseye is small, the 50 yard is tiny. Some people claim the target size is proportional to the range. The replacement cents (about 10.5" square) are ~$5 per 100. The full size 24" square target is about 50¢ each in bulk.

After a frustrating year of Bullseye matches, I shot only 50 yard targets at 50 yards because proficiency at 50 got more points at 25. 50 point scores at 50 were common for me. I'd get 75 to 85 at 25 yards. I shot a 93 @ 50 yards once -- 10 shots in black bullseye, and 100 @ 25 yards, 1 timed target, and 1 rapid target. I never broke 2400 out of possible 2700 points. I have had 3 scores over 800 with 22 LR, never broke 790 with a 45 1911. BUT I had fun.
