I've had good experiences with the big chain stores...although I never bought a gun from them.
There's one near a movie theater where I am and I took a date to see a movie. Our showing was sold out so we got the next showing. Then had to kill 2 hours. So I took my date across the street to a huge outdoor outfitter's chain store and up to the gun department. I told the salesmen up front we were just there to kill a couple hours waiting for a movie. By the time we left, they had hauled out almost every single gun for me and had moved on to bb guns and paintball guns. At one point I think there were 5 of us(me, my date, and 3 salesmen) each with a gun in each hand just shootin the bull. I don't know why I had 3 salesmen to myself.
It was more fun than the movie.
Usually a gun shop won't pull out another gun until they put the one back you are already looking at.
