i've got my "new to me" lee pro 1000 setup, with all the right parts, but for whatever reason the case slider doesn't seem to want to move far enough back that it will pick up the case.
it does appear to go far enough forward to push the empty case into the shell plate

any ideas?
please and thanks

It matters what caliber your loading because there is two different case pushers one is the large and one is the small. I know with 40 cal you have to use the large case feeder tube but the small push block. Also on the block where your z bar is going in there is two holes see if it is going through the back one hope that helps. I believe anything over a 40 cal you have to have the large push block

thanks, you are correct.
i have the large case slider, the large case zbar and the larger case cylinder
seems like there should be an adjustment screw or something

Nope no adjustment screw. Another thing is make sure your case feeder is as close to the press frame as possible. With mine I just lifted the ram half way and loosened the two nuts on the case feeder and pushed it to the press frame and just moved it out very little mine almost rubs when I go up and down

The z bar should be in the "front" hole of the slider, the one nearest the press. If it is in the back one, it will lessen the travel of the slider by about 3/16".

Perhaps your dies are adjusted too low to prevent the shell plate from moving up fully, which don't allow the Z-bar to extend back fully?

- Remove all the dies from the turret and raise the shell plate carrier all the way to the top and note the position of the case feeder/Z-bar (should be flat)

- Screw in just the resizing die in the turret until the bottom slightly touches the shell plate, lower the shell plate carrier and give another 1/4 turn, then raise the shell plate carrier back up to hold the die and tighten the lock ring - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68qIahkBZJc&feature=plcp

- Now check to see if the case slider will allow the case to drop from the case feeder (Z-bar should extend back flat as in step 1 above).

- If the cases drop reliably, install the rest of the dies following Lee Precision videos - http://www.youtube.com/user/LeePrecisionInc/videos?query=Pro+1000

FYI, I run my case feeder fairly close to the frame - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=7608940#post7608940
