I have a few ways of dealing with this, dont know which one I use more often (second nature), and I probably use a combination of them depending on my shooting position.
Move pistol a few inches to the left and use my left eye.
Tilt pistol to the left at to about 15 to 20 degrees, or tilt my head the other way about the same amount, and use my left eye.
Tuck my chin into my right shoulder, and use my left eye.
Longarms get fired from the wrong shoulder. If he's already shooting longarms, making the transition from righty to lefty isnt that bad. After I made the switch it started making more sense to me to have my strong hand controling where the muzzle goes - and of course I started shooting groups instead of patterns.
I can target with my right eye, but it takes a lot of concentration for me to switch eyes. I do practice weak hand, moreso with my AR than I do pistols. Oddly enough, in my right hand, I'm a much better shot with a 1911 than I am a glock. In my left, I shoot the glock better than a 1911. Go figure.
