People have always told me my feet should be registered, I had no idea they were illegal. I wonder if they're legal when I'm barefoot???

I find this incredible. The only way this could be a crime is if the sock was used - then fine him for possession of a disgusting weapon.

Man fined for carrying gobstopper
Snooker balls
The court heard how the gobstopper was as big as a snooker ball

A man caught carrying a large gobstopper in a sock has been fined £400 after it was found to be an offensive weapon.

Jamie Harvey, 20, said he needed it for protection after he was attacked.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court he admitted carrying the snooker ball-sized gobstopper and sock at a city leisure centre on 19 December last year.

Defence agent Matthew Nicholson said the sweet was "a substantial piece of confectionary" which could be eaten.

The court heard how unemployed Harvey, from the Maybury area of Edinburgh, kept the gobstopper under his car seat.

He was caught at Drumbrae Leisure Centre by police who were searching for cannabis.

Sheriff Kenneth McIver told him that, even though it was not in the same category as a knife or axe, it was capable of inflicting a nasty injury.

"You will be aware of the ongoing national debate on offensive weapons including knives," he told Harvey.

"But all too often this court has to consider other improvised weapons like this."

Probably not legal in most of the US either. There are a lot of jurisdictions that prohibit slung shots. Put a bar of soap, a couple rolls of pennies, or any other hard object into a sock and smack someone with it, expect to be arrested in most parts of the country.

I dont think its a item thats not legal to have in most places but it is a gray area and goes to intent. Here in Oregon you can have a loaded 12 guage shotgun under a truck seat out of sight and its legal but if they have grounds to think you are planning to brain a person with a old style overhead projector and its under a blanket they can get you for carrying a conceild weapon. You may want to check the state stats as last I knew switch blades or gravity knives where illegal in wash and oregon and cant even be carried with a permit.

This is probably just down to the fact that the guy is a scumbag drug dealer and the cops just wanted something (how ever thin) to bust him for.

Unlike his car, which housed the weapon of mass distruction.
Heaven forbid you get caught with an unregistered "Soap on a rope"
