I will be traveling to Shand's University Hospital in Gainesville in the near future. The hospital is located on the grounds of the University of Florida. It is a teaching hospital where people in the university's medical program learn to be doctors, but it is also a public hospital. I am not sure if it is technically a part of the university and thus illegal for me to take my CCW or if it is separate from the university and I can pack heat without fear of felony charges.

If anyone can help me with this question I would appreciate it.

PS: There is nothing wrong, my Mom is making an appointment to see a specialist and doesn't want to make the drive alone.

Here's the Florida Statute: (790.06)

12) No license issued pursuant to this section shall authorize any person to carry a concealed weapon or firearm into any place of nuisance as defined in s. 823.05; any police, sheriff, or highway patrol station; any detention facility, prison, or jail; any courthouse; any courtroom, except that nothing in this section would preclude a judge from carrying a concealed weapon or determining who will carry a concealed weapon in his or her courtroom; any polling place; any meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or special district; any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof; any school, college, or professional athletic event not related to firearms; any school administration building; any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose; any elementary or secondary school facility; any area technical center; any college or university facility unless the licensee is a registered student, employee, or faculty member of such college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or nonlethal electric weapon or device designed solely for defensive purposes and the weapon does not fire a dart or projectile; inside the passenger terminal and sterile area of any airport, provided that no person shall be prohibited from carrying any legal firearm into the terminal, which firearm is encased for shipment for purposes of checking such firearm as baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft; or any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law. Any person who willfully violates any provision of this subsection commits a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.[

Not to mention UF itself bans every single firearm from school property (I'm a Gator, so I know). Of course, the cops can carry...

Not to disparage UPD, though. They're a pretty good police department. But according to them, you can't have a LOCKED rifle in your car trunk...it's against school policy.

You can legally leave your gun in your vehicle while on school property. School policy only applies to you if your are a student there.

Firearms-Possession and Use

The possession of firearms and weapons on the University campus is prohibited except as provided for by state statute and applicable university policy. The term "firearm" is defined for the purpose of this policy to include, but be not limited to, rifles, shotguns, handguns, pellet guns, BB guns, and pistols. Weapons include, but are not limited to, knives, bows and arrows and martial arts equipment.
For the convenience of persons residing on the University of Florida campus, weapons may be stored for safekeeping at the University Police Department.

Another Gator here! UPD good police department? All they ever have to do is work the games and bother and harass kids on bikes and people driving
:cuss: :fire:
Not just firearms are banned, every type of "weapon" excluding pepper spray i believe. I dont think not being a student really matters to the UPD, since you are on school grounds you have to follow school rules.

And someone was just murdered on campus and we cant defend ourselves why? They tell us to call UPD, im sorry but Id rather defend myself than depend on the UPD officers.:uhoh:
