Has anyone played around with the .312 Xtreme Defense 75 gr bullet in the .327 fed magnum using H110/W296 powder? I would think that it would make a great combination, but LeHigh's data only shows loads for this bullet/caliber using Accurate #9, Accurate #7, Alliant 2400, and Longshot.

They do list H110 for the 95 grain bullet (along with several other powders), but not for the 75.

Other powders that I have on the shelf are HP38/W231, Unique, and Tight Group. Has anyone tried any of these?

(As everyone should probably be aware, components are almost non-existent at present, just trying to make do with what is available. I was able to score some 75 gr bullets, and will do some loads in .32 S&W Long using Unique, but thought that H110 would be perfect for this bullet/weight in the .327)

No input from experience here regarding that bullet, but sounds like it could be an interesting load!

It's likely the lighter bullet and H110/W296 combo had a full burn issue. The 2400, Longshot and AA#9 listed in their data are all very close in burn rate, but faster than this one. I know, not everything can be predicted by the burn rate chart but it's something I like to look at frequently. I'm thinking with the H110/W296 they couldn't get enough in the 327 case to generate decent pressure with such a light bullet. You're probably well aware of this powder performing best at the upper end of load data since you have it on hand. That's my theory, lighter bullet had incomplete burn characteristics so they're not recommending it.

For Unique, they have a load using this bullet with the 32 H&R (and Long), you may be able to work with that H&R data and do some extrapolation for the 327 FM if you're comfortable with that sort of thing. I'd be tempted to take that 95 grain H110 max load of 12.5 into consideration for a starting 75 gr load... If you look at the powders that are common between the two thats pretty much what you're seeing here, max charges for the 95 are very close (or matching in one case) to starting load for the 75. I'm not "recommending" it though as I have no experience with this bullet and H110 can be a finicky powder... ;)

@SlowFuse , I like your thinking on the H110. You might be right on target. I always crimp all of my H110 loads to the extreme, but even that might not be enough to get what that powder needs with that weight bullet.

I had already thought about doing extrapolation from .32 S&W Long, but maybe somebody else has already been down that route. Thanks.

I agree. A bit too light for H110.

I'd look at Blue Dot, 2400, or Unique.

Here is what I am thinking as of right now, unless someone can point out a flaw in my reasoning:

LeHigh shows 5.0 Unique as max for that bullet in .32 H&R Magnum. Looks like a good starting point for .327.

Also, LeHigh shows 3.7 as max for .32 S&W Long, so I will probably load up some .32 Long brass with that load and try in a S&W 31-1 after shooting a couple in the .327 SP101, assuming the Ruger shows no pressure signs.
