Because DAO pistols are not cocked, there is no pent-up spring energy waiting to be expended. You must supply the energy to load up the hammer spring with your finger pulling the trigger.
With a cocked and unlocked pistol, there is a hammer with a wound-up spring behind it just waiting to fall. A mechanical failure or impact occurs and that spring releases thus causing the hammer to strike.
