Current prices notwithstanding; I would not buy one to be used as a "shooter" defined as using it in some sort of competition. The design of the pistol does not lend itself to fast loading and shooing. I would - and have - bought one to complete a collection and to plink with.

Everyone says that these are just for making smoke and just for fun, however as it turned out my 1860 Army repro has to be one of the most accurate handguns I've ever owned. Smacking a plastic gallon jug from over thirty paces three times and the other two rounds, I just load five being out in the woods, smacked two 12 oz. beer cans from over 10 paces. Heck my 380 or my 38 special couldn't do that.

So now what? If you are going to drop that kind of money, get a shooter. Eventually you'll want to hit something.

I recently sold my cavalry LeMat that I found at a gun show in Austin, TX (cost $250), unfired in the box, to help pay medical bills.

I created a detachable skeleton stock for it to make it even more exotic weapon for a western film I provided props for. I think it is more visually interesting than even the Walker, which is why it was selected as a featured weapon fir "the man in black" in Westworld. That cartridge conversion Le Mat features a removal frame/pin/cylinder assembly very different from the tip down Le Mat featured in the 1959-1960 "Johnny Ringo" TV series.
