I ordered a Les Baer Monolith .45, recieved it today and took a trip to my local indoor range. I never understood all the hoopla' over high end 1911's. . . now I do.

First mag put 8 shots in a cluster at 12 yards. My very first 25 yard target put 7 out of 8 shots in a vertical 1.5' cluster, using mixed brass. Good Lord!! 125 handloads later and there were no malfunctions, with strong ejection.

This pistol so tight it's unreal. The sights at 12 yards were spot on, the trigger is excellent, and overall fit and finish is impressive. I never understood the 30 lpi checkering on the front strap on 1911's. . . now I do.

At first when I ordered this Monolith, I thought good grief, I'm spending way to much money for a 1911 pistol . . . . now I think it was a bargain.

My only compliant is the box the pistol came in. . . but I'm over it already.

Congratulations on your new Monolith.

So you've discovered Baer's trademarked cardboard box? I know it's not much, but c'mon it's just a box. Most people just throw it away, it's not big deal.

The box is the same as the pistol....simple, yet VERY effective. I have one of the boxes too...I'll never forget the way the guys in the gun shop looked at it when they figured out that my VERY sweet looking 1911 (a stainless Stinger) came in it.

Les is a no-nonsense kinda guy...form follows function, hence the box.

1911 itch

I got the same itch you do. Been look at Baer, Wilson and Brown and am curious what tipped you to Baer; other that "Monolith". That sure is a purty horse!

I really appreciate everyone's comments. Even though I am a Les Baer owner, I promise to remain humble:p I feel blessed to be able to own such a fine pistol.

GZOH,

I still shot my "little" CZ-75/40 today.

Xavierbreath,

Thank you very much.

There was a time I thought I'd never spend that much on a handgun. I got a great deal on one a few years ago and wouldn't hesitate to pay full price for another one if I ever felt the need. Great guns.

Maybe someday. I began with a basic Rock Island and now I have a Colt Gold Cup, a first generation Kimber Classic Gold Match, and a Dan Wesson Pointman-7...

I started with a DW PM9, then a Valor. Im thinking(money permitting) my next will be a Baer or an Ed Brown. That wont be for awhile though.

Some of my shooting buddies were in the same boat. They thought all 1911 style pistols were basically the same.Once you aquire top end equipment like your Baer, you never look back.

"Resistance is futile"

Its the same with all Highclass firearms, sort off.

"does X shoot Y times better then my Z? no? so why should i buy it then?"

once they get a range session with X, they are willing to sell there Kinds to get X. :p

schmeky, how'd the mags work for you? I didn't have a problem with the three what came with my Baer, but some people have problems with them and I think the followers are the biggest let-down. As for the box, I'm glad Les Baer didn't pay a ton of money to some marketing firm to try to figure out what would be the most attactrive box to gun buyers. It's not like we're going to use an OEM pistol case for anything, anyways and hardly anyone ever re-sells one.
:D
