When you find out, let me know..
This fellow seems to be a little uptight because two young people are
exercising their right to bear arms in a perfectly legal manner. His
sky is falling attitude needs a little adjustment in regards to his article.
As always please be polite. Doing so will surly outclass this character.

The right to bear arms is one of America's most sacred rights,
except when dopey teenagers start parading around with loaded
weapons, which is why I've scratched Post Falls off my summer
travel plans.

I must agree with you! The youth of America shouldn't be allowed firearms till they have displayed the maturity to do so!
Thats why my son didn't get his first till he was nine, a Smith and Wesson Mdl 17 .22 pistol, followed a year later with a CZ .22 rifle. You should meet him as you would probably like him; even though he is neither snide, nor obnoxious.

The above is my reply to Dear Dave.

Done. Here's what I wrote:

Hello, Mr. Clark:
I am puzzled by your column on the so-called “Bullet Brothers”, Zach and Stephen Doty. According to your column, they are well-behaved, well-spoken young people who have created absolutely no problem. Yet you refer to them as “homeschool zealots”, and imply that they’re ready to go “postal” anytime because they carry into their church. The further implication, of course, is that they are crazy because they ARE Christians, but I’ll let that one slide for the moment.

You go on to poke fun at the idea of gun ownership for home defense, gun ownership for the defense of the nation, and imply that those who carry guns (concealed or not) are to be feared and groveled to, lest you be shot when you inadvertently offend them.

Are you just going for cheap laughs, or do you actually BELIEVE that all those who carry weapons for self defense are teetering on the edge of rampaging homicide?

I’d love to invite you shooting if you lived closer. I’m a 52 year old mother of four who carries a concealed handgun, licensed to do so by my state (Texas). I’m about as likely to go postal as I am to fly to the moon. I, along with every other person I know who carries a gun, will go FAR out of my way to avoid a confrontation with ANYBODY, lest something horrible develop. I’m the person who does NOT do “road rage”, because I NEVER want to have to take a life, and I CERTAINLY don’t want to “start something” that ends up in a life being taken. I too carry when I go to the library, when I go to church, when I go to the grocery store or out to walk my two old dogs. I do so not to intimidate anyone, but to protect myself.

You need to take an opportunity to get to know real concealed (or open) carry gun owners. Idaho allows open carry, so these boys can legally do so. Texas does not, so we carry concealed down here. But concealed or open, it’s not the law abiding gun owners who carry for self defense that you ever need to fear. I hope you can get to know some, perhaps go shooting with some, so that you can learn that for yourself.

Until then, stay safe, and don’t worry about the law abiding gun owners. They’re not anybody’s problem.

It's always a gamble to do this type of thing, as there are two possible outcomes: People become desensitized and it becomes a non-issue, or people get hysterical and pass a bunch of laws to prohibit it.

springmom,

Great rebuttal. I think you presented yourself very well, and represented gun owners in a very good light. Thank you.

Washington state also allows open carry...

The wife and I have hiked around Elk River Idaho and lo and behold... open carry was in full swing... oh the humanity {/sarcasm...

"Spo-Compton" as some call Spokane WA has it's own issues to deal with... more two legg'd predators than 4 legg'd ones to be honest...

My email to him. The subject is "The Pot and the Kettle"

"If the Bullet Brothers were more mature they'd understand that having the right to do something doesn't necessarily make it right to actually do it."

You mean like you complaining about people doing absolutely nothing wrong? Clearly the First Amendment needs to be reconsidered so people like you cannot bother the rest of us with your exercise of your freedoms.

Complain when they actually do something wrong.

I just wish Texas would allow younger people to carry handguns. Scares me to death for my youngest son to be "out there" late at night (he's 18) unarmed. For that matter, I wish Texas would allow open carry.

Maybe I wish I could move to Idaho. Hmmmmm... :neener:

springmom, you can move to Montana if you like ;)

Open carry statewide, and concealed carry outside of city limits without a permit. CCW permits shall issue.

Legal age to carry a gun without direct parental supervison (IOW, off leash) is 14.

Of course there are the dang schools ... my daughters couldn't have a gun in their car when they drove 25 miles one way to HS :(

I sure hope Mr. Clark isn't planing to cut south and go through Arizona. Open carry of handguns (without any permits) is legal for those 18 years or older, unless they are prohibited because of past criminal conduct. If he spends any time in the rural areas he might end up having a stroke or heart attack.

Wonder what he thinks of those "dopey teenagers parading around with loaded weapons" who are in the military services and putting their lives on the line?

You will be shocked, SHOCKED to know that Mr. Clark seems to have overlooked responding to my email. I was surprised to see that he'd responded at all to anybody. Usually these kinds of folks just want to take their cheap shots and move on. Gag me with a maggot.:barf:
