Let's go magnet fishing!

With my luck I would end up in possession of a gun or knife that had been used for a crime! Or a rusted mass of metal that had once been a registered magnum! Back when tackle boxes were made of metal, I did fish one out that had a few mossy lures in it.

I read that article and it sounds like the fellow didn't have permission to be doing the fishing where he was doing it. It was nice that he wasn't charged because he gave up his find to a museum. (Which he should have done anyway...)

Somehow I got caught up watching the Michigan magnet man. That and some others have popped up over time.

Then I saw this article and thought it was pretty amazing that he found that sword.

I know they find stuff that's been buried for hundreds of years or more in Europe. Swords were often thrown in water for different reasons.

Didn't read the posts past yours. I believe any archeological find in the UK belongs to the government.

European laws regarding antiquities are very different than ours. Even if it’s on your property and you find it doing normal stuff you can get in trouble for not reporting and giving the govt full access to your property to destroy at their leisure. Even things as simple as a single coin or piece of jewelry can land folks in serious trouble. I remember reading an article about a farmer finding golden snakes in his field and that led to a major discovery and all the while he was in court for some small infraction about reporting the find.
