Lets talk about this wonderful piece of equipment. "COLT"

Here's a tip. Don't drop your Umarex made Colt on the freaking cement floor for chrissakes!

It's like complaining that your Mercedes got a dent in it when you ran it into a tree.

uhh no, a drop on a firearm should not cause a catastrophic failure, granted you're not supposed to drop it but the comparison is more kin to

"i rear ended someone with my mercedes and it BLEW IN HALF"

lol, nice!

i know that lol means "laughing out loud" but it gets used so much it has lost some meaning, but i wanted you to know that i actually did laugh out loud, very loud, at that.

if the gun had colt on it most people would assume colt at least checked it was quality.
suprised it was made by walther they usually make good kit.
Though it might be a cunning plan "we will make this crap labelled colt and people will no longer trust the colt name :evil:bwhaahaha

Requiem for a platitude

Actually, IMHO, the most profound impact of the Umarex / Walther / zamak / rimfire M4 is the fatal wound inflicted to a certain internet gun board cliché or mantra.

The deceased cliché is, of course, "Only a Colt is a Colt".

Apparently, Walthers are Colts.

To appease those that hold the opinion that the rimfire is not a Colt by virtue of its manufacture I'd concede that the cliché could live on in modified form such as:

"Only a Colt manufactured by Colt in Connecticut and not the product of a license agreement held by any firm outside Colt's own manufacturing facilities, is a Colt".

But the amended version certainly doesn't roll trippingly from the tongue, does it? I'd go so far as to suggest that it isn't worth any life-support measures that might be expended to keep it shambling along. Personally, I'm fine with that as I tend to dislike clichés anyway.

R.I.P.
Only a Colt is a Colt.
You shall not be missed.

:p That's not a COLT!

Does that Umarex / Walther / zamak / rimfire M4 come with a warranty?

It also has "M4 CARBINE" stamped on the side in big letters, does this make it an M4?

Since you can't buy an M4, I'd say that Colt is cashing in on the M4 hype. So in this case, yes it is an M4. A Colt M4. In .22. That sometimes breaks when it falls down.

On that we do NOT disagree it was a monumentally stupid move by Colt.

They seem to be making a habit out of those things lately.

It's a shame, they were once a strong company. I will hate to see them go.

No. It makes it an "M4 Carbine.":D

And one that's made out of the same stuff your window cranks are made of...:scrutiny:

Ah, the old Ford Pinto argument. I see what you did there.

Seriously though, if you licensed your name to a manufactured/importer/whatever, every product that comes out bearing your name is YOUR product. Sometimes that sucks but it's life.

Does anyone here actually think that when the average (read: not a member of an internet forum) gun owner drops and shatters this rifle, they're going to say to themselves "Well I am most definitely never buying another Umarex product again?"

Hell no, they're going to say "I can't believe the quality of Colt products has dropped so low. I'm going to avoid their line and stick to S&W."

Ahh, you Colt apologists are just so cute & funny. I've dropped MANY guns over the years. NONE of them broke like that.

Is this thing more comparable to the Ford Pinto, the Edsel, or the Corvair? :p

Reminds me of the cheap Italian motorcycles back in the 70's that had the Harley Davidson name on them.

If a company licences their name and puts it on a product, it becomes their product, period. For legal, and all other purposes. The identities or extent to which subcontractors are used has NO bearing on the fact a Colt product is a Colt product. In this case, apparently the product sucks, and Colt is responsible and has to live with that.

I work for a company that makes electric meters... we use components from all over the world. If we get a run of bad capacitors, guess what... if we put them in a meter and ship it out the door, we are responsible to the customer for fixing it, because it is our product. We don't get to pawn off responsibility and say TI, or ATMEL, or Ember, or whoever is who you get to call for warranty work. We sold a product and with it claimed the profit, and the responsibility for making sure that eveything in that unit works, period.

I seriously doubt that Colt makes every component in a 6920 either. If something goes wrong with a 6920, they don't get to pawn it off on CMT or whoever makes their parts either. The product was sold by Colt and they are responsible for it.

I have an Umarex "Beretta 92" air pistol.

Do I think thats a Beretta in any way? no. Does the quality of it reflect on Beretta? No.

Allow me to amend my previous post if you will:

I can overlook crappy knives, second rate ball caps, non-stellar bicycles, pellet guns, airsoft pistols, paintball markers, distilled spirits, lingerie, footwear, cellular phones, coffee mugs, walking canes, flashlights, watches, rings, dental hygiene products, average polo shirts and run of the mill beer koozies. However, this .22 thing is a firearm of sorts. It has the Colt name complete with snakey-looking "C" and a prancing pony.
Amended portion in bold.

The point is that the rimfire is a firearm - distinct from toy guns in most states.

Nobody expects Colt, S&W or H&K to have manufactured their branded ball caps or air guns.

But the rimfire is a firearm. If Browning suddenly switched their rimfire rifle to an Umarex imported zamak look-alike their reputation would take it in the teeth. That's life. Colt isn't immune.

which btw, the sights broke off, and I cannot IMAGINE paying retail for that, I got mine for free. $250 bucks? What I am saying is, Umarex products made by walther are junk.

This product is clearly marketed and sold by Umarex, and therefore they are responsible for it. They are saying it *looks like* a Beretta 92... it is clearly not a Beretta 92, nor is it sold by Beretta.

I will give it a try, with spacing,

Colt gave Umarex permission to make these for them. OK?

Therefore they could be stamped Colt. OK?

So Colt could sell them as their own as they don't have the machining to do it themselves. OK?

Technically at this point it Colt is having somebody make a product for them as they can sell it on their own......

So Colt should be doing QC work. The are Colts product as they gave permission to have it made for them.............OK.

Hopefully this worked.
