In another thread I posted about a new Burris Veracity that I have purchased. One of the things I really like and stuck out to me was how thin the cross hairs are. I am a Leupold fan and always have been, however, I noticed the cross hair on my VX2 was much wider than the Veracity. Almost turned me off to the scope. Never realized it untill this weekend after shooting.

So here is my question, is the B&C reticle thinner than the older duplex reticle? Also, VX3HD vs VX5HD is there a big jump in value? I know there is a big jump in price.

Thx

Thicker crosshairs are great on a hunting scope used in low light. The ones with thin crosshairs can be aimed more precisely in good light, but those fine crosshairs can't be seen as well in low light hunting situations. The Duplex reticles are an attempt to do both. You often can't see the thin part in the center, but the thicker part of the reticle guides your eye toward the center. Everything is a compromise, and you need to choose based on how you plan to use the scope.

To me the B&C reticle is too busy. I like multiple aiming points, but just keep it simple with several hash marks on the vertical post for me. The Burris FF-II is about the best reticle out there IMO.

I don't like busy reticles myself and I am Leupold fan at VX3 and 5 price points. I have taken a liking to the CDS on Leupolds for longer ranges as it works for me. I never thought paying extra for the B&C reticle was worth it even without the CDS. Sight her in at 1.5 high at a hundred and call it good...

Ive a vx-3hd and i feel that its enough better than the freedom (replaced the vx-2) to warant the extra cost.

Reticle wise i can compare my 3i to 3hd, but beyond that i never found leupys reticles particularly thick?

The Leupold website lists a variety of reticules. Besides the standard ones, there are custom extra cost options, assuming those are currently available

Unfortunately the Leupold custom shop is closed indefinitely.

IAW Leupold they're actually pretty close depending on magnification due to being 2FP. They do a pretty good job of keeping their reticle info available on their webpage.

Some info I cobbled together because I'm probably going to get a VX6-HD in 3-18X with the illuminated B&C in prep for a hunt coming up. I've got a 6-HD 2-12 on my M48 in .270W with illuminated FireDot BDC and I've been pretty happy with it.
