I have a new Leupold VX-5HD 4-20X52 with the 34MM tube.I ordered a CDS dial from the custom shop and I can't figure out how to put the new dial on.The new dial has a threaded drum inside of it and that won't fit on the scope without removing something from the top of the scope and I don't see an easy way to take anything off.If I screw the threaded drum out of the cap,the dial will fit on the scope but the zero stop doesn't work.Has anybody on here ever ran into this?I have emailed Leupold, and I would expect they can get it straightened out,but it takes them a while to respond.

I just put one a a VX3. Mine came with instructions for the different series. I just looked at them and for your series you should sight your rifle for the range you selected for the CDS dial with original turret.. Once done remove the elevation turret by loosening the 2 set screws on the dial. Put CDS on and rotate right until the zero distance mark is aligned with the witness mark on the scope and tighten set screws...Hope that helps. On the VX3 and Freedom series there is a rubber washer that has to be removed before CDS is installed.

Chuck R,most of them are like the video you posted, but this one's different.I would have thought they would have done it like that because that's how you do the original cap.I can't figure out why they made it the way it is.

My VX6 1-6X is also different, does the original cap/drum pull straight up and off??

Most Leupold scope models have an indicator ring that can be moved independently to align with the zero on the adjustment dial. To reposition the indicator ring, simply rotate it until the position indicator notch/pointer is aligned with the zero of the adjustment dial. To reposition the finger-click dials on VX-6 models, simply grasp the dial firmly around the edges and pull straight up until you hear an audible click. Rotate the dial until the zero on the dial is aligned with the witness mark on the maintube. To lock the dial into position, push down until you hear an audible click. To reposition the dials and the zero stop on the VX-6 CDS Target adjustments:
1. Loosen the set screws on top of the dial until it moves freely.
2. Rotate the dial until the -0- on the indicator ring/zero stop aligns with the bottom of the dial.
3. Tighten the set screws until the dial is secure. 4. Each number on the indicator ring equals one complete revolution of the adjustment dial.

To reposition the dials on CDS or CDS Target models:
1. Loosen the set screws that surround the top of the dial until the cylinder turns freely.
2. Turn the cylinder dial by hand to align the zero with the witness mark at the base of the dial.
3. Tighten the set screws until the dial is secure.

Yes,the original dial lifts up and off when I loosen the three set screws in it,and the new dial can be attached the same way if I remove the drum that screws into the cap,but if I do that, the zero stop won't work.I've had this scope for about two months and am familiar with how to set the original dial, but I can't figure this one out.I think they must have given me the wrong setup for my scope.Usually their equipment is easy to work with, but not this one. It's actually the sixteenth Leupold scope I have, but most of the others are Mark 4's and VX-3's,and I get along well with them.
