Quick version: anyone have experience with Leupold customer service with replacing an old scope?

I bought a used rifle for a pretty darn good deal (Interarms mark x in 270). Came with an older glossy VXii 2-7.

As I play with it, there's an issue with the glass on the 6oclock position. It also has horrendous "fish eye lense" on low power.

Definitely not what I would expect from a Luey... And I love Leupold.

So I'm considering calling them up to send it in. I'm really hoping they just send me a VX freedom 2-7 as a replacement as I don't want to deal with an old scope. Not sure if they do that.

Anyways, I would appreciate any feedback or experiences.

Picture shows the odd "chip" in the lense. You can't feel anything on the outside so it must be inside somewhere. PXL_20230730_002314084.jpg

Replacing it or not would be Leupolds's decision. My guess is that they would probably repair it. In the decades of owning dozens of Leupold scopes I have never had to send one in for repair. That in itself says something.

Hey funny you should ask. I sent in a old xvii 3-9 that would never elevate high enough, 2 feet low at a 100yrds. Along with it I sent in a M8 pistol scope with loose pieces on the inside. The promptly sent me a new VX-Freedom 3-9x, on the down side it's been 6 months on the m8. I have called them and,all they say is sorry they dont produce those often and they are, waiting for the next run. Jumping up and down happy AND jumping up and down pissed off. I dont think I will buy again.

I doubt they will repair your VariX II.
I have several and adore them.
However, I sent back a 1.5-5x VariX III about 5yrs ago. It demonstrated the same thing as yours.
After about 5mos, I got a call from them and they said they no longer made that model.
They offered to send me a NEW VX-3 instead!
I accepted!

I had an old VX-III. They replaced it with much improved VX-3.

Best was a pair of binos. They were in the Bargain Cave at Cabelas, 1/2 off because they had threaded on eye pieces that were stripped. Since leupold always promotes their “forever warranty“, I called and they said they fix them no problem. Felt a little weird that I’d buy something known defective to take advantage of the warranty. Their rep said that’s why they have a warranty, and they‘d rather have bad product off the market

I talked the department manager into another 50% discount, so I got them for about $160 IIRC. I was considering the fact that for whatever reason they might not get fixed and I’d eat the loss.

Sent them in, and a few weeks later got a brand new pair of Leupold’s best 10 x 50’s at no charge, about $550 value IIRC.

Be advised that if you’d like to change models or upgrade, they will apply the list price of your defective product against the list price of the new product of your choosing

While I’d rather not have the product go bad in the first place, getting a free replacement for a 30 year old scope is pretty amazing. I did have a rangefinder that went bad. They would give 50% off on a new replacement, but retailers give deep discounts off list anyway so I didn’t bother

Send it in, they send u new one.....ive sent back 4 leupys, and they only serviced the newest so far, a Vari-x III long range. My vx3hd is in for service atm well see if its replaced or repaired

I ended up with a fixed power pistol scope…send it in, no repair - new variable power on the way back. Fixed or new - Leupold is one of the better companies
