If read that the Leupold Freedom replaced both the VXI and VX2 line of scopes. What do you users that have had both think about the quality? Do you think its better or worse and why?

I've have, or had some variation of the Vari x-ii, Vx-1, Vx-2, and freedom. Optical i think the freedom is better than the old Vari X series, and the VX-1s. It's optically about the same as VX-2, except that for me, there isn't the wierd color issues the older leupolds had.

The adjustments seem to track and stay in place well enough for a set it and forget it scope, but honestly I'd rather they stuck with the friction adjustments, or done a little better even if it cost more. The one I have is so mushy and indistinct that it kills my appreciation of the line.

When I mounted it on my 6x47 it hapend to line up so close I didn't bother adjusting it more than an inch or so, and until I used it for more than a single set up, I really liked it for the cost.
When I mounted it on my 795 build it was a 6-8" off at 50yds and trying to count the clicks was a none starter. I just spun the knobs till the the bullets and crosshair agreed. Again optically I'm very happy with it, but i think it's found its forever home cause I'm not messing with it anymore.

Now Ill to go up product line more (if buying a Leupold), or carry a slightly heavier scope and get something else.

Edit: I just realized this was in handguns....not sure if that was a mistake or your looking for ler scopes. If so I don't think the vx-f comes in that flavor.
