Mine is clearer then the freedoms I've had other then the 2-7 I've got now. I like how the picture is the leupolds just feel right to me, kinda like the feel of older snap-on combination wrenches they just feel right.

It's possible mine is due for a trip back to the mother's mothership then, as my VX-Freedom 4-12X40 is much clearer. Very visibly blue/gray hue to the Vari-X IIc as well.

40 years of desert heat and sand could play hell on optical coatings though. I think I may reach out and see what they say.

Interesting how differently we all aee stuff, most of the older generations of leupolds produce a yellow/brownish image to my eyes

It may have been a quality scope in its day, but glass technology has come a looooong way.

“Glass” is believed to be better - although I’m not terribly certain that’s really the case. But absolutely certainly, glass COATINGS have improved dramatically, during the last ~40yrs, which have improved optics on the market considerably. Equivalent models today tend to blow away the optical quality of scopes of the past. It’s actually quite frustrating when you think about how much we used to pay to get scopes in the past, when less expensive scopes today have better clarity…
