I am in the market for a compact scope for my CZ-527 carbine in 7.62X39mm. I have narrowed my choice to a Leupold VX-1 2-7x33mm Scope. This scope comes in 2 models; rifle and shotgun/muzzleloader. I really really like the Turkey-plex reticle of the shotgun model, but because of its 75 yard factory parallax setting, I am wondering what effect it will have on my application. I plan to brush hunt, and my shots will probably be under 100 yards. But, I plan to site it in at 100 yards. The bottom line is would the parallax settings of each scope (shotgun model=75 yards, rifle model=100 yards) make any difference for my application? Why would I go with the rifle version over the shotgun/muzzleloader version? Thanks in advance!

I used a Leupold 1-4X20 shotgun scope on a rifle for years. Farthest I ever shot it was about 150 yards. Shot it a lot at 120 and under. Never had any problems with parallax or anything else.

Keep your eye as centered behind the scope as you can, and the parallax will be minimal, and certainly not enough to worry about for game.

If you want a low power variable Leupold with the parallax set at 100 yards, this VX3 1.75X6X32 is real nice. More money, but really nice.

Here is a Vortex for less money.

But again, if you are set on the VX1 2-7, it will work just fine.

Sounds like good advice thus far. Thanks! Regarding that Vortex scope, I have wanted to try one of those, but am limited with the size ocular bell that I can place on the CZ-527. That rifle's bolt is designed in such a way where it gives very little wiggle room in terms of clearing the scope as you cycle the bolt. I have to be very precise in my scope ocular dimensions. These Vortex scopes seemed a little too big for me to take a chance based on the research I've done. A couple of other scopes that fit the bill are:
burris-2x-7x-35mm-fullfield-ii-scopes and
redfield-revolution-2-7x33mm-riflescope
Any thoughts on these? As compared to the Leupold?

The Burris Fullfield II series are nice scopes. A buddy has a 3X9 FFII on his .308. I have no experience with the new Redfield.

I have the new Redfield 2x7. They are made by Leupold, and have, what I'd consider, to be comparable glass at a lower price point. I think you'd be happy with one.

Many Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for the fine input. All said, I think I'll stick with the Leupold. I found a place that has them reasonably priced. I measured it, I know it fits, and I know it is great quality. I ordered some high Warne rings as well. I'll put it all together and publish some pics real soon on this thread. Thanks again.

steveo452, nice! I am only hoping that the rings I ordered (warne-hi) and the Leupold Vx-1 are a workable combination in terms of bolt clearance. You have a very nice rig! Thanks for sharing the pic.
