Lever action stock choices

There have been a few threads lately about lever action rifles. I haven't seen this particular topic mentioned, though it may have been addressed. Is there a functional difference between straight (traditional-look) stocks and curved pistol grip stocks? Or is it purely cosmetic and therefore a personal preference? I tried a search at TFL but wasn't smart enough to narrow down the parameters. TIA.

As far as I know, it is purely preference.
