This LGS is the largest in my area.
He said they way to many stock and it would 3+ years to sale what they had.

I need a price check.

I would also like to KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM!!!

Customer care....

If it were me, Id just go online & find the firearm you want then get a local FFL holder to do the transfer. :D
I'm blessed to have a great source. A retired US Navy JAG lawyer who also sells guns on the side. He's cool & only charges $25.00 per transaction. ;)
My friend purchased a new Ruger LCR .38spl with a Davidson's lifetime plan & a Lasermax Crossfire laser. He did that thru the retired US Navy officer's firm in 2013.

If the gun shops or FFL holders are stringing you along, just go that route.
Don't waste time & $$$ on the posers & fakers.
When the gun shops & clerks lose $$$ then they will get in step. :D

They told you.

They have too many of them.

I have been noticing a glut of full sized semiauto pistols lately myself. Basically if it's not a CCW friendly model it's not selling lately

I have a Walther P22 that I asked my LGS about a trade. He said he already had several and didn't want anymore.

NO!!! They were refusing to buy or trade for one!!!

You realize they have no obligation to take your trade in or buy your gun right?

Especially of a model they admittedly have an over stock of

Take it to a pawnshop. They'll buy it! Although you may find the compensation severely lacking

Definitely so - on both accounts. I wouldn't expect to be offered more than $200 for it at a pawn shop.

Anyways - as said - the LGS is a business, and all businesses gauge their inventory needs. If they already have more than what they need then it's not a wise investment for them to buy. It takes up valuable shelf and/or storage space in the store.

My advice if you need the moeny: just post it on Gunbroker with a relatively low starting bid. Don't set a reserve (both high started bids and reserve prices tend to scare away many potential bidders). Let it go for however high it goes for. It it almost certainly go for the current market rate (though you may not like whatever that comes out to be).

Probably not a great time in general to sell guns, especially service pistols and AR's. I just got the new CDNN catalog and couldn't believe the price drops from a year or two ago.

If you want to know the value go to gunbroker & look at completed auctions for the model you want to sell. You may have to set up an account to do it but that doesn't mean you have to buy anything.

Maybe turn this around. What is wrong with you for thinking somebody else should have to buy something from you that you don't want and they say they already have too many of?

Even if they did make you an offer, given what they told you already, it would be a lowball offer that would just piss you off, being so low as to being insulting, but at the current time, it would not be worth to the LGS any more than whatever that very low number is.

Better for them to tell you nicely that they are overstocked and have no need for your product at this time than the insult you with a lowball offer.

Nothing wrong with them, they are a great pistol. But if I already had four of them I wouldn't want to buy yours, either.

I know gun shops that won't buy any Sigs because they say they don't sell in their area. Not everyone even knows what a Sig is. If it doesn't say Ruger, Winchester or Remington on it or maybe Browning or Colt they just don't know what they're looking at. Most of us here know how great Sig pistols are but that isn't the case everywhere.

Pistol sales have leveled off in Mississippi lately.
Many sellers & fewer buyers result in lowering of prices to move the merchandise.
Now is a great time to be a buyer & a poor time to be a seller.
Still some bargains to be had.
I just bought several SIG's for really low prices. ($450 to $485 for the like new P220's & $495 for the like new P226)
There are many 1911's with price tags starting @ $375.
Very good time to buy.

Sales of 220s have gotten really soft since Sig released the 227. I can see why he didn't want to add another one to his inventory. Your post sounds like you just wanted a cash deal on it. Perhaps he'd be open to putting it on consignment or doing a trade deal with you?

I'm also confused about this. The market dictates, and business is business. Buying your gun from you would have been a bad business decision. It's not personal. Hang on to it, it could change.

ColeK,
I find it strange that you are upset that someone doesn't want to buy what you have to sell.

This is a capitalist democracy that you live in. Businesses exist to make a profit, not obey your demands.

I went to trade a full size Sig for a full sized M&P. The shop owner gave a price lower than I hoped but he was sincere about how slow full sized pistols were moving. His advice was to sit on it for a year or three until the trend comes back to larger guns. I can't blame a guy for not wanting a product he couldn't sell. He is in business to make money. I kept the Sig and bought the M&P. Maybe I'll try the Sig in a few years and until then I'll keep shooting it. I didn't feel I was given a line, especially with what's being pushed in the gun media as the hot buys.
