Liberals Want Gun Control For You, Not Hussein

As you listen to all this talk about Saddam Hussein presenting "no threat," or not ever having done anything to America, ask yourself a question about his weapons. We have guys like Chuck Schumer, Teddy Kennedy - the whole rank and file Democratic Party - saying they can live with a guy like Saddam Hussein working on getting a nuclear arsenal and chemical weapons and anthrax. They want to "go slow," and leave him in place with the world's worst weapons - which we know he has and which the inspectors cannot verify he destroyed.
But let one law-abiding American woman who's being threatened by some stalker get a gun, and these same Democrats waste no time trying to get that gun away from her. That's what gun control really is: disarming the law-abiding people of this country. They hate the idea of American civilians having guns, but a bad actor like Saddam armed to the teeth doesn't bother them. If that's not hypocritical, I don't know what is.
I remember having dinner once with an elite New York Republican (who was really a New York liberal, country clubber-type) for whom the cause célèbre was gun control. This guy had a big, safe apartment on Fifth Avenue. He was giving us all this erudite talk about how we had to get guns out of our society, "it's just killing people" and so forth. I said, "If you can convince me that after we get guns out of the people's hands you're talking about and that we could then go across the street to Central Park and not one criminal in there is going to have a gun, then I might talk to you about it."
Until you can guarantee me you're going to get guns out of the hands of criminals, then it's a moot point. I was met with dead silence for saying this because there's no answer to this logic. It's amazing how the very Democrats in this country who want to go slow and who demand all this proof - and maybe don't want to do anything to disarm one of our greatest monsters - cannot wait to disarm you. Just let them see you run into your house with an arsenal, then if Hans Blix can't find the weapons, tell them they're gone and to leave you alone. See how far that gets you.
