I would like to develop a "light" load for target use in my Kimber custom II. My current "light" range load is a 200gr FMJ over 4.6gr titegroup. This functions nicely with the factory 16lb recoil spring. I would like even lighter loads however. I can bring the bullet weight down, which I will, but my problem is I have no idea where to start in choosing lighter recoil spring. I've seen springs as light as 7 lbs, what loads will work with a spring this light? Any suggestions on a good reliable light load/spring combo? I find it hard to wrap my mind around a spring as light as 7 lbs working reliably. Loads with titegroup would be appreciated. Thanks!

I run a 13 or 14 lb spring in the 1911 I shoot in 3Gun and IPSC, using 165PF loads (5.1gr TG, 200gr West Coast). The problem I had with anything less is that if my left-hand thumb happened to rub the slide, it would reduce the slide velocity enough to not return to battery properly.

Wolff sells "spring packs" where you get three different spring weights.

hope this helps

Thanks, that helps me with my ballpark reasoning. I will look into the three spring kits from wolf as well.
