Anyone out there have any experience with the Limbsaver sharpshooter X-ring?? I have a friend who is considering trying it on a rifle and looking for some honest input. He has tried lots of factory ammo and just cannot find one that will shoot better than 1.5moa @100yds and wants to try this product to tighten his groups. He don't reload so he is looking for a way to improve the accuracy on his rifle. It is a hunting rifle, but like everyone else he is trying to squeeze every ounce of accuracy out of it he can. Is it a gimmick or for real??

your best bet would be to bed the action and float the barrel, maybe a better trigger. It would help to have the make model of gun and caliber and length of barrel.

^^^^^. Agreed. Most of that stuff is a gimmick I my opinion. I can't say I've use one but BigBore is right. Also I would recommend having the scope mounted with a lapping kit either at home or by a smith.

He can try it the red-neck way for a lot less money with some duct tape and fishing sinkers!

I have them on my guns that are not bedded or freef floating such as mini-30,mini-14,m1 carbine and they do work well for Dampening the Harmonics. Just place it about 2½inches from the muzzle.. what makes them work is when a bullet is going down the barrel it causes the barrel to shake (Harmonics) so when the bullet leaves the muzzle its shaking making the shots inconsistent. The x-ring helps to stop this problem. Yes they do work on thin barrels that are free floated too. All guns when fired create Harmonics its imposible not to. To make it easy to understand its like shooting free handed not being able to be dead steady compared to shooting off sandbags being much more steady.

I know a couple of people that swear by them.

IMHO, bedding and free floating combined with handloads that were developed for that gun is the best way to go. But you are still subject to barrel harmonics, you have only made them repeatable/predictable, finding factory ammo that works best might be hit or miss.

It is a Remington 700 in .270 Winchester 22"standard barrel. He did bed the recoil lug, but he didn't do a great job, there is JB weld all over the action because he refused to use any type of release agent. He simply has his own ideas on how things work, and refuses to take advice from anyone most of the time. He bought one so we will see if he thinks it works. Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate the knowledge.
