Just got into guns and have been buying a few here and there but plan on buying a bunch more in the very near future. Is there a limit on the number of rifles a person can purchase in a particular amount of time? If I go through more than "X" number of NICs checks and/or purchases in a particular month will I get flagged in some way?

For the curious I bought a couple Mosin Nagants (M44 & 91/30) and a Hungarian M95 so far this month. Was gonna order up a Swiss K31, Yugo M59/66 SKS, 98/29 Persian Mauser, HK91, AR-10 and an AK47 pistol this week.

Where do you live? Some states have retarded/useless/nonsense/sheep-ish one per 30 days laws.

Not on rifles.
If you buy more than one handgun a week, the dealer has to submit a multiple purchase form on you. Repeat on that a few times and you might get a visit from the feds.

Wow, wish I could afford to buy all that at once!

Like buying candy for school, make sure you get enough to share! :p

Becareful!!!!

About 6 years ago, I bought 2 handguns and three rifles in a single month. That set off flags with the Feds. They put me on their "no approval" list and I've not been able to purchase one since.

Now keep in mind that I have a CCW and renew it regularly. But I can no longer buy rifles or handguns.

Just be careful.

Thanks for the responses..... anybody else have knowledge about "no approval" list like Uncle Chan mentions? I can wait and make my purchases slowly if necessary but would prefer not to wait if I don't have to.

There has to be something else to this.

Probably could use a C&R FFL but don't really know much about it and haven't had the time to figure it out. When I look through various surplus gun dealer web sites I pretty much want to get one of everything.

There are no federal limits on firearm purchases (number of guns, that is). However, some states (not Texas) limit firearms purchases to one every thirty days.

Multiple handgun purchases within one week from the same dealer get reported to the ATF on form 3310.4. Data from this form IS stored in a traceable database. This procedure is for the purpose of combating illegal trafficking, that is somebody legally buying a bunch of guns and then illegally selling them on the black market to prohibited persons.

Even with the multiple handgun sale reporting you can still buy as many as you want. However, with handguns it might be eventually questioned, especially if guns you bought and resold turn up in a crime.

There is no multiple sale reporting on long guns (rifles and shotguns) at all.

There has to be more to Uncle Chan's story than he is telling us. You can not be disqualified for firearms purchase simply by number purchased. Now, if you bought a bunch and got busted selling them on the black market, then that's a different story (straw purchase, unlicensed individual acting as a dealer, etc.). Frankly, I don't buy the story. If Uncle Chan is being denied and doesn't know why, he needs to seek advice from an attorney.

If your interest is in military surplus firearms, get a Curio and Relic license. It will save you a lot of money. It's easy to get and inexpensive ($30). Call the ATF National Licensing Center at (404) 417-2750 and ask for a "Form 7CR."

If he bought with a credit card and something happened with the credit card company, They may write a letter saying sell no more guns to this guy. Try paying with cash.

I purchased 4 handguns and 2 rifles in a 3 day period last year. The 4th handgun purchased was delayed for about 10 minutes while the state police verified my exemption from the one handgun a month law. Other than that, no problems at all.

What did you leave out? You're not telling us everything.

You didn't mention your state but in Texas you can't get the CHL if you cant pass the NICS.

The BS meter is pegged here....
