While trying to find more info on the High Standard Sentinel snubby I own I have been searching through Google for anything I can find. One link was back to my post here last week. I am not real savvy on internet stuff (basically just know enough to be dangerous) so it scared the stuff out of me to have that happen. I guess I thought this site was secure and only read by members or visitors. The feeling I got was like having my back door start openning when I know I am the only one home. Put the hairs right up on my neck.

Well, I found THR by doing Google searches for various firearms and/or calibers. Usually at least one link to a thread here. After reading through many of the threads, I decided to join up.

If it's online, it's public. Don't ever forget that.

Dope

You don't want everyone in the world seeing what you write, don't type it into a computer. Even systems that are supposed to be private get cracked regularly.

Kinda strange to see your own comments come up on Google though. If you contribute enough, it'll get to be a regular thing.

Grandpa Shooter, take a look at the front page near the bottom where it says "Currently Active Users: 1228 (319 members and 909 guests)". The number of guests will almost always outnumber the members and a fairly good percentage of those "guests" are Google Spiders and Yahoo Slurp Spiders.

Never think for a second that what you post on the net is totally private, including your emails.

Actually one good aspect of having Google sneaking around is that members can perform much more sophisticated searches on THR than they can by using the native search engine. (Add "site:http://www.thehighroad.org" to your Google search parameters.)

Oh, I've been linked back to myself a few times to find I'm back at a post I made somewhere. If you get really narcissistic google your screen names!:D;)
and you'll only be linked to yourself!:uhoh::scrutiny:

Use Scroogle not Google. Google tracks your internet usage and searches to a degree to "help" you with future searches (and provide evidence to the Fed in case of a trial). Scroogle deletes that information after 24 hours and uses loose record keeping. This will help keep your searches fresh and new. But if there is only so much information on hand on that topic, then that will be what you will get regardless.

If I do an Internet search on the name on my Birth Certificate...
One fellow made millions in the dot com deal and retired at age 24 or 25.
Another fellow made his millions in the Porn Industry, and on a Int'l level.

Them ain't me. Both of them are Yankee's.
I am just a poor dumb Southern Boy, but I can shoot a 28 gauge shotgun, at the orange "dot", 25 times in a row, 8 different ways and stay straight.

*wink*
