Does any have a link to a list of what handguns are standard issue by the country's various police departments? (I can't seem to find one.)

Perhaps we could compile one here. I think it would be a nice reference. Please add any you know to the list.

TN:
Memphis Police: Sig229 (.40)
Shelby County: Sig226 (.40)

The DEA carries the S&W M&P, Sig Pro, Glock 22, Glock 23, and Glock 27 in .40S&W.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol use to carry the Beretta Cougar in .357Sig. I think they switched to the S&W M&P.

Iowa City PD: Glock 22, .40 caliber,
Coralville (IA) PD, Sig 229, DAK, .40 caliber
Iowa State Patrol, Smith and Wesson M&P 40, .40 caliber.
Just the departments I know of.

C'mon guys! Take 2 minutes and post what your local cops carry. (200+ Views and Only 6 replies) I doubt THAT many of you live in the areas already mentioned.

In North Carolina:

NCSBI: Sig P220
NC Highway Patrol: M&P .357 Sig
State Capitol Police: Glock 21 .45
Wake County Sheriff Office: Sig P229 .357 Sig (I think)
Johnston County Sheriff Office: Glock 21 .45
Raleigh PD: M&P .45
Durham PD: M&P .45
Wake Forest PD: Glock 21 .45
Knightdale PD: Sig P229 .40
Smithfield PD: Sig P220 .45
Clayton PD: HK USP .45

That's a few off the top of my head.

Thanks,

Patrick

Thank you for the good response patrickford.

(We know that Glocks are widespread and 40 has become the generic caliber BUT it would still be nice to see what everyone is issued.)

IIRC Chicago IL gives an allowance and has officers pick from an approved list. (This is surprising for such a large city IMHO.)

Springfield MA: M&P 40 (big shock, right?)
Dallas TX: Sig 226 (9mm)

Chicago is requiring the Glock 17/19 while in training and on 18 month probation. After that, they can choose from a large list that includes several .40 and .45 pistols including P220 DAO or DAK, XD and various Glocks. They still have people working with grandfathered revolvers, known as "wheelgunners".

There are over 17,000 state & local LE agencies nationwide.

While issued & authorized weapons can probably be listed for the major agencies (NYPD, LAPD, LASD, etc), and the state agencies have been listed upon occasion, it's probably going to be hard to find current info for most of the smaller agencies on any given day.

Last time I heard, something like 60+% of the agencies across the country employed 10 or fewer armed employees, and it's not uncommon for agencies that small to require (or allow) their employees to purchase their own equipment & weapons.

Atlanta PD, Smith and Wesson M&P 40

Athens-Clarke County, Glocks of some flavor (probably 40s&w)

UGA police, Glocks of some flavor (probably 40s&w)

Conyers Police, Glock 22's

Ohio State Toopers can choose from a list with most common being the S&W MP/Glock 22 in .40. Local police in the NE Ohio carry Glocks and I have seen a few Sigs. I know for sure Youngstown police Dept. carry the Glock 22, I have seen them exchange for the newer Gen's over the years.

Lexington, KY police carry the Glock 22. Saw a 26 or 27 on an off duty officer recently.

I had a link of a site that had compiled small arms info for Domestic/Foregin, LEA, other gov. agencies and Military.
I haven't found it.
