You do not mention the kind of press you are loading on. Single stage or progressive? Sometimes on a progressive press, the various other operations prevent the ram from going all the way up and this will cause OAL variations. The big culprit is the sizing operation. This can be a particular issue with mixed brass that takes differing forces to size completely.

While crimping, I have moved the mouth toward the shoulder a time or two....dozen. It's easily done.

I've abandoned the practice.
 
No problem ironworkerwill, I wasn't arguing with you what so ever? My comment was regarding brass and oal being two separate elements, in that regardless of how much the brass is trimmed or head stamps, it all seats the same regarding case head to olgive, it will always be the same, neck tension aside, which is what I think you were referring to? If you were stating that varied neck tension can effect oal, then yes, press flex and seating stem flex can cause variations, if that is what you were referring to.
