Well I have a can of VV N530 lying around... and nothing to load with it.

So decided to see if I can load 44 grains under a 196GR FMJ in my 8x60S.
Since none of my manuals have this caliber... voila Quickload spat out the following data:

Cartridge : 8 x 60 S
Bullet : .323, 196, Sellier-Bellot FMJ-BT 2910
Useable Case Capaci: 57.171 grain H2O = 3.712 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.291 inch = 83.59 mm
Barrel Length : 24.0 inch = 609.6 mm
Powder : Vihtavuori N530

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.
CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

Results caused by ± 10% powder lot-to-lot burning rate variation using nominal charge
Data for burning rate increased by 10% relative to nominal value:

Data for burning rate decreased by 10% relative to nominal value:

Does this mean I am safe to go at 44.5 grains?

Personally I would back off to 42gr. and work up to the noted load. Quickload is a good program but cannot take into account the anomalies that can be present in individual rifles. Tight chambers and necks just being a couple of them. The program is based on ideal dimensions for everything and everyone who uses that program should realize it. Good luck!

No interesting story.

Just that the 8x57 is classified as a military caliber, making ownership difficult. So a lot of the surplus weapons are re chambered to 8x60, 8x64 etc making ownership easy.

Mine is Vz 24 with most of WWII still in the barrel, but it did allow me to win a club level championship.
